Some fast grafting!
Comments (14)Thanks for those awesome videos. I have always wondered how in the world commercial orchards are able to graft trees in high volume. It takes me (a newbie with no experience) almost 10 minutes to do a graft as I slowly work and try to get things perfect and eyeball it from all angles and so on. While I knew that someone with experience could obviously do it much faster (and better), I had no idea they could be this fast. Also, as Appleseed said, I always dip my knife in bleach water, so its interesting to see these folks taking some short cuts like that. May I ask 2 quick questions? 1.) What is the name of the grafting technique used in the first video where he makes the main angled cut and then a back cut on the opposite side? 2.) On the T-bud grafting video, are those trees just going to have 2 (or more) different kinds of fruit on the same tree, or will they probably cut the whole top of the rootstock tree off later right above the bud graft and allow the bud to become the new tree from that point on? (Please understand I'm new to this and forgive my uninformed questions! Thanks.)...See MoreAdenium Autopsy
Comments (3)Exactly....that's my point, and why I asked. Just how much fusing takes place, and where? I think, if I were to bet, that it is only at the cambium layer where fusion takes place. And if this is true, what prevents the un-fused, tissues from rotting internally, from lack of nutrition? There has to be more to this story. Comments (116)Brrian, you should check out the adenium/desert rose forum. Ltran on there is in Houston and has the most amazing collection of big DRs. I've seen triples offered here and there but never quads. There's a link for a place to order online below. George, I went to Joseph's nursery in Pearland and they had a great selection (in June) of DRs, even doubles. I was told they only bring them into the sales areas when they're blooming though I saw lots of giant ones in cachepots that weren't. Definitely worth a call. Laura, like everything else you grow your DRs are looking fantastic! Here is a link that might be useful: DRs online...See MoreHello everyone!
Comments (2)Andrew, For citrus grafting the method in my link can not be beat when grafting onto mature trees. It's pretty hard to screw up. It is very easy to do when the bark is slipping. Here is a link that might be useful: grafting...See MorePagan
