wall sconce lighting dilemma

I have room that is part den (for TV) and office with only 3 wall sconce light sources (candleabra style currently) I need to replace these hideous shiny brass wall sconces for a more updated version, since I'll still need ambient room light. (I can add a couple lamps at the most for more light.) My main dilemma is one of the sconces is centered (3/4 way up wall from floor) on a long wall above a 7' long couch. If I want to hang artwork on that wall, it seems like that sconce placement would be strange even if I got picture wash type lighting. The other option is just to cover it up with art and not use it as a light source. Does this post make sense?!
