Comments (30)'T&S' might be my very best hydrangea. I grow 34 hydrangeas so that statement has some merit. The thing is an absolute powerhouse in terms of bloom production (late May until the first frost). It is, in essence, the Knock Out rose of hydrangeas (and I say this from experience of growing the majority of the "reblooming" hydrangea cultivars). Performs admirably in full sun, is definitely quite disease resistant, and changes COLORS easily! I will be adding several more to my gardens this season--and looking forward to it!...See MoreLet's Dance in full sun?
Comments (13)Yea I moved around some coneflowers this year and they were fine also. I gave some Shasta Daisies away and trashed the rest. Those coneflowers in front of my LD popped up beside where my downspouts drain off my garage. Years ago we dug a big dry well with small gravel for the downspouts and stacked some big rocks on top to make it look better. The closest coneflower is atleast 12 feet away. I guess they liked the moist soil there and some how seeds found their way over there. On the south side of my home I had a clump of Rudbeckia that spread the entire length of the 30 foot bed across the front. I let them stay and just made the bed wider to accommodate them. I am starting to believe global warming is real now and we did jump a climate zone. I have never seen things spread this aggressively before. In the past my BB and LD have been some of my most reliable reblooming Macs. I have one of each doing great like prior years, but others just growing foliage like crazy. Couple weeks ago I gave them some 0-45-0 to try to snap them back out of it. My 2 older original ES are having an ok year at best. They both put on 6-8 flowers and just sort of stalled out. No more new foliage or flowers so far. I dont think the macs have enjoyed this wacky up and down weather this year. Although my Twist n Shouts, Summer Lace, and 3 out of 4 Blue Heavens are having their best years ever. All other Macs seem to be suffering to one to degree or another. Very confusing on what is to blame exactly and how to remedy it. Especially when they are all having different issues....See MoreCannot decide: need compact hydrangea
Comments (13)Blue Eskimo I have had good luck with the FE Blue Heaven & Original ES Mopheads. So I never have had the need to try another with the Moonlight. But I do have three Starlights and they do great and they are on their third season now. Along with they are already in bloom right behind my Blushing Brides, the first always to bloom with no dieback every year! My Twist n Shouts did great their first winter also. If you do not already have a Blushing Bride, get one! They will do great for you. I am getting tired of my Double Pink not blooming. I bought a Summer Lace also this year and I have my fingers crossed. I think it's flower edges out my Starlights and the TS takes third place in the flower department for me. But still love all three lacecaps. The Together is a GREAT HYDRANGEA!!! ES seem all very reliable and FE seems like they might have a couple duds. But FE has a couple of real winners in my yard also!! So I forgive them for the pink ones. If the Summer Lace is a dud I might change my mind...LOL... Although the Double Pink is very dissappointing with it's very unique flower. Not sure why they advertise it blooms on new wood when it seems that it does not. It just gave me enough the first year to have me wanting more every year since! It is in a very good spot. So the most it has is till the end of next year to get it together. Here is a pic of the Summer Lace, Starlight & Together!...See MoreOpinions on "Let's Dance Diva"
Comments (13)I was "so so" about ES Twist and Shout at the nurseries. But when finally got one am amazed by it. Blooms early and then grows fast and reblooms over and over. Astounding performer for us. Compact and those reddish stems are nice contrast. We have 80 kinds of hydranges. H. Twist and Shout won a front door spot. Also H. serrata 'Blue Deckle' is another front door worthy. It looks actually like a serrata macrophylla hybrid....See MoreNicola Ness
