ID red-orange insect eggs

I found tiny, long-oval, red-orange eggs on the back of a wild morning glory leaf when pulling weeds today. Can't find info on it anywhere online. All seem to refer to eggs 'laid in rows' ~ these are not, but randomly placed. Once again, I tried to upload a photo, but due to slow internet I couldn't. Hope you can give me some thoughts to research. Thanks.

Compare to Mexican fritillary butterfly eggs, though it could definitely be something else.

Not the MFB eggs, for sure.

But your description needs some tweaking. Are these eggs in a loose cluster or are they single eggs....located on the same leaf?

Would you call them spindle/football shaped or rod shaped? Dark red orange or light and bright?

Please take a look at this picture of Leaf Footed Bug eggs. Coincidentally taken on a morning glory leaf! These may not be what you've observed, but they will be a good way for you to tell us what's different. That can help narrow down a description.

WOW! I was expecting maybe one response by this evening but WOW! And it looks like the winner is..... Rust! It's no wonder I couldn't find it while searching Google, MSN, AOL, ASK, etc. I was searching for 'eggs'. lol Sure could have fooled me...these bright orange things look like what an insect egg should look like, albeit very colorful. lol As I said in my OP, all these years with a few rose bushes/trees and never a problem, now this rust. You'd have thought one of my own human children had a gash or something the way I panicked when seeing these bright orange things! Google both insects as well using the word damage. The damage one does looks different than the damage the other does. Flea beetle damage looks like someone shot the plant with a shotgun, Colorado potato beetles eat larger swaths out of the leaves. Neither is desirable on your plant. Like rhizo says look at the picture of a Colorado potato beetle egg and compare it to lady bug eggs, every year we get threads where people find lady bug eggs and spray the tarnation out of their plants. It's a good thing to find lady bug eggs, and you should leave them to hatch.

For us to ID eggs, we need to see them close-up. It would also help if you told us what plants you found these eggs. These are on your peppers, correct? Ladybug eggs are distinctly football (spindle) shaped, and can range from yellow to light orange. You'll need to google to compare. That's just a wild guess, since we can't see the shape of these eggs.

I looked up Apanteles and came upon a list of what looked like about a thousand species! Still, whatever it is, it's common enough that what I have down here is undoubtedly the same as what you have up there. I'll guess it's a tiny wasp that depends wholly on red admirals for its existence - I've never seen a braconid wasp like it. You usually see big braconid wasp cocoons on the backs of big sphinx moth cats - these little things get enough to eat off the tiny little hatchlings and/or early instar caterpillars. I released my first red admiral (a big one, probably a female) from the last batch, which was small. 'Hope I get more, but they don't always lay eggs in summer, even though there's always a 'road admiral' on my gravel road in the late evening - strange. Sherry

If only my photo would upload !

While I've seen an MFB in the yard, I agree it's not that due to their yellow eggs ~ these are bright red.

The Leaf Footed bug eggs were in a perfect row, brownish red and rod like, so not that either.

I even took the photo by a nursery ~ they had no idea.

These single eggs are not in a cluster and not in a row, but laid randomly ~ about 20 on the back of a wild morning glory leaf. They are identical in shape being that of a capsule or caplet (long with rounded ends) and very bright red or orangey-red.

Ken ~ that's what I've been trying, but my internet connection is super slow due to my area (long standing issue), so no dice. Thanks though.

I guess you didn't click on the link I attached. Not all leaf footed bug species have the kind of eggs you've described.

The eggs I was hoping that you looked at are red orange, football shaped, and randomly deposited on a morning glory leaf.

Rhizo_1 ~ I did check it out. Eggs I have aren't football shaped like yours and are not as brownish-red, but a real bright, clear red-orange and elongated with rounded ends like a capsule.

Stick them in a glass jar with a lid, and hatch them. Maybe you can figure out how to post pictures by then! ;-)

I will see if they hatch. As to the photo, I have a 640X480 pixel photo on my desktop. I write a post, click on the 'camera' below the post, locate the photo and open it. And then I wait. I can see the little icon spinning and it will do that for 30 minutes, but never load. That's when I give up and just send the photo-less post. Given that, any other advice?

Nope, hoovb ~ ladybug eggs are yellow, jelly-bean shaped and in clusters. Thanks, though.
