Marvin "Infinity" replacement windows,Reviews?
Comments (10)I'm replacing one double hung window in our bathroom as part of the bathroom remodel. I have about 25 original double hung windows in a home built in 1913 with all natural Douglas fir trim/moldings. So whatever I chose in the bathroom I will need to match up in the rest of the home. I do not want cheap white Vinyl windows. I've done a little bit of research and called Marvin directly to figure out the difference between the three Marvin Windows they make: The Ultimate, The Integrity, and The Infinity. You actually have to talk to three different departments to find out more about each window. What I found out is that the Ultimate and Infinity are very similar looking and would match up nice in an older or even historical home. The Integrity is more modern looking and that's the only big negative for my situation. If I had a newer style home instead of a Victorian Colonial I would opt for a casement window because they seal air tight when closed unlike the double hung, but it would look awful. So the Integrity is out of the equation for me. I found a reputable installer on Angie's List so I agreed to purchase an Infinity window which is 100% fiberglass with the Ever-wood interior option, and rain glass on the bottom sash. I can even stain the interior with a gel type stain to match the existing wood trim. I think it's a great idea to use an all fiberglass window in a bathroom because of moisture and humidity concerns, and to go one step further maybe opt for the triple pane in just the bathroom. Eventually the pine wood will rot away in the bathroom, and condensation will build up on the inside of the glass from showering. Pine is never recommended on exterior trim because it rots out quickly, they recommend Cedar or Douglas fir usually. Recently I used a white PVC vinyl trim that I will never need to paint on the outside made by Aztek from a local lumber yard. I think this would also be a great choice for interior trim inside a bathroom by the way. I've tried the best white exterior paints added the mold inhibitor additives and the paint eventually cracks after a few years. The other option if you want natural wood is to go with a nice hardwood, like oak, cherry, mahogany, or maple and use a clear Benjamin Moore stain, just don't use pine in the bathroom. If I'm happy with the one Infinity in the bathroom I could have all the windows upstairs replaced with Infinity ones. I will opt for the grills only on the windows located on the front of the house. Maybe go with the Marvin Ultimate with stone white Aluminum clad exterior Doug Fir on all the downstairs windows. My house has vinyl siding with storm windows and shutters. The Infinity Installer said they will need to remove the stormers or it will void the Marvin Warranty (which is excellent by the way 10yrs+ I believe) and they will have to use aluminum to wrap the outside trim. There's a little more to replacing the window than I thought. I will update with pictures after the install....See MoreMarvin Aluminum wood Clad windows VS Eagle
Comments (9)We're in the process of building and just had our Marvin Ultimate casements installed. They are gorgeous. The Eagle quote we received was around $4000 less than the Marvin. If I recall correctly, most of the price difference was in the french doors (four pairs with sidelights, one pair without). The window prices were pretty comparable. What swayed us to the Marvins was the better exterior finish and the fact that the Marvin dealer in our area was VERY helpful. The Eagle dealer -- uh, not so much....See MoreMarvin Ultimate Clad vs. Marvin Infinity
Comments (4)The quotes are for a full replacement on my windows. I guess what sticks in my mind is the clad still has wood and has the potential for rot down the road. As for the Infinity it does not seem there is anything to rot on these windows although I am not sure which finish will holdup better in the long run. Another positive for the Infinity is the outside can be painted if necessary down the road not sure that is true the clad. So not sure what is best longevity. Both appear to be solid windows. I am more impressed with the clad dealer who has communicated installation procedures and what happens to minimize damage to the area surrounding the windows on the interior which will leave paint and wallpaper in tact when the job is done....See MoreNew Windows - Hurd and Marvin Quotes
Comments (14)This is regarding HURD DOUBLE HUNG Windowsâ¦My husband and I are building a retirement home and our local lumber yard recommended HURD. They said they sold their casement windows and their customers loved them. They looked beautiful and the glass looked great⦠I looked them up on the internet and looked at their example in the store. I decided it looked comparable to an upper grade window. We purchased the double hung and had them installed. First thing that happened my contractor said they were so flimsy when they installed them it took twice as long to install to get them straight. Next thing we noticed was the screens didnâÂÂt fit and were so flimsy if you just touched them they would fall out! Next we noticed the mechanisms. Two of mechanisms broke when we tried to open the window. Very cheap! ThereâÂÂs ONLY ONE seal to protect you from the outside. The seal is made of some fuzz with a piece of rubber in it! You can literally put a card, knife etc, thru itâ¦These windows reminds you of a MOBILE HOME window! We called our local lumber yard and they contacted the distributor â¦he came out and you could tell he didnâÂÂt care and did not want to be there. He was VERY rude and said they were all jacked! My contractor was there and measured them and proved they were not! We got in an argument and he left! The so called HURD rep couldnâÂÂt show up for another week! LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! When he finally showed up he wouldnâÂÂt even talk to me he said he was there to fix the windows!! ThatâÂÂs not why I called himâ¦he didnâÂÂt care! They got their money and thatâÂÂs all they care aboutâ¦I told him his company misrepresented us about by showing examples on the internet and in the store that wasnâÂÂt there window!!! He didnâÂÂt say a word to me! VERY RUDE!!!! I told them I did not want these windows and he kept on fixing them instead of talking to me and left!! I have built 3 homes and remodeled 6 homes in my life time! I have NEVER had such BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!! These are lousy windows for the money! They misrepresent their product! CHEAP MECHANISMS AND SEALS. If I had the money I would sue themâ¦IF I FIND A WAY I WILLâ¦I would say they are worst than 3rd grade windows but they are charging for 1st grade windows! STAY CLEAR AWAY FROM HURD!! Very expensive for the cheap windows!...See MoreEast Bay 10
