Mrs. Pettigrew's Island of Peculiar Children........Read it !?

Has anyone read Mrs. Pettigrew's Island of Peculiar Children ?

I just finished it and I must say it is a strange way to write a story....with a pile of old photos!

yoyo, I tried to check-out your book as I was wondering why the name 'Pettigrew' (unusual as it is) seems popular with a certain type of story . .think 'Major Pettigrew's Last Stand' imo rather too long, or 'Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day' by Winifred Watson . . . very entertaining.
Couldn't find the title you mentioned anywhere but came up with
'Miss Peregrine's Island for Peculiar Children' which, I think, must be it.
A critic said the best thing about it was the photos!
btw it is being filmed by Tim Burton with no less a 'star' than Dame Judi plus Terrence Stamp and Rupert Everett . . .

    OOOOPS !!

Yes, that IS the correct title.

Interesting that they'd make a movie from the book. It was an odd story and probably something that Tim Burton would really get into. That is an impresssive cast !

I really enjoyed it, read it when it first came out. Those photos in the book are intriguing and if I recall correctly, the author said he mostly picked them up at yard sales. It is meant to be the first in a trilogy; the second came out not too long ago. Our library shelves it as a teen book, which is how I see it, too.

I tried to read it, but whether it was the book or my mood, I tossed it aside without much ado. I felt the story was wrapped round the photos instead of the photos adding to the story. I thought of trying again, but there are so many other books...

Pam, I think you are correct. I also felt that the photos drove the story and in a very noticeable way.
