Hi everyone! I was part of Beacon Light Products, the company that invented and manufactured these products. The company has been gone for many years now. This product, Bulb Boss, was an amazing feat of engineering. It was sold under our own name and packaging as well as with our marketing partner Angelo Brothers (Abco) as shown in the photo on this thread. The electronics inside the little brass cup module were absolutely cutting edge and took electronic surface mounted chips to new levels of performance. I continue to hear stories of people who have these devices still in use today, some 20 years later. I actually think that I still have a couple somewhere in a dusty box of memories of things that should have changed the world but didn't, We took to market 5 products: a 4 level dimmer, 10 and 30 minute timers, a Nightlight, and an Emergency Flasher. The technology was also built directly into incandescent bulbs and sold by us as well as ABCO and Philips called "SmartBulbs". (Smart before everything else used the term). I see today, that Philips has a multi level LED bulb out... perhaps some of that original Beacon Technology lives on! Brandie, I still have a few of the 30 minute modules. "LED candelabra bulbs" Except most are as ugly as sin. Only the top half is 'bulb.' The bottom half is the power supply. Horrible looking if you have clear glass hurricanes.

I had exactly the same problem with a Kenmore range hood. I did what Weedmeister suggested and it solved the problem. Please don't attempt this without turning off power to the hood at the breaker. Thanks weedmeister. Oh, one other thing that made the job much easier was using my wife's round mirror that swivels on its stand. This allowed me to see exactly what I was doing.

Cree Lighting manufactures a standard base LED array. They are located in N. Carolina. In general, present white(ish) LED sources do not have higher luminous efficacy than fluorescent tubes, but have the advantage that in most applications all the light is directed where you want it. Cree show that their 12W, 650 lumen LR6 LED flood light is approximately equivalent to an 18W compact fluorescent in recessed fixture room lighting. For comparison, the halogen 75WR30 flood lights I presently use in several of my ceilings are rated at 1020 lm. Rated life for the LR6 is 20X that of the halogens, at a cost of less than 20X more, exclusive of the 20X more labor required for halogen lamp changing and cost of power differences.
