Heat Pump wont turn off despite new thermostat, wires, and contactor
Comments (5)Technicians don't have licensing (at least not in Texas). Many companies claim this, but anyone with $20 and a clean back ground can submit their application to TDLR and get a "Technician License" if that's what you want to call it. It means nothing. HVAC contractor's license: what I have gives you this: TACLB28416E (requires much more than just money to get it.) That is a 'REAL' license. The other is more or less a registration with the state, that provides a way for the state to keep tabs on those with criminal records, because by and large the HVAC companies never follow thru....See MoreBosch Wifi Thermostat Wiring Help.
Comments (3)It appears you have wired the new thermostat correctly. How long does the blower run before the condenser kicks in? How long are you waiting between attempts of lowering the thermostat temperature in order to start the condenser? What might be happening in the new thermostat is the the G terminal is energized immediately which turns on the blower, and the Y terminal has a delay and energizes after a period of time. On most furnace control boards the Y terminal also turns on the blower. So as an experiment try disconnecting the G terminal and then lower the thermostat enough to turn on the AC. The blower and condenser should turn on at the same time. The clunking you hear is probably the condenser contractor closing. I don't see how changing the thermostat would affect the noise level....See MoreThermostat Wires
Comments (7)How old is this house? Old houses with boilers used on two thermostat wires which were usually black and white. A furnace may have been installed at some point. There could be a splice somewhere between wires. The terminal the wire is connected to and not its color determine the function of the wire. The R terminal is 24V AC, the W is for heat. When calling for heat the thermostat connects the W terminal to the R terminal. This causes the furnace to turn on. If you are replacing the thermostat you need to put the wires on the the same terminals as they were previously connected....See Morewhy are there 3 thermostat wires running to a condensing unit?
Comments (2)When the old furnace was in use the red wire carried 24v + to the t-stat. From t-stat 24v was sent to furnace heat relay, furnace blower and contactor on outdoor unit. White wire is 24v -- common to contactor , blower control and furnace heat relay. Red brought 24v + from t-stat to relay when cooling was called for. If the new furnace has been operating without being connected to transformer in picture, the new furnace has a transformer....See Morekudzu9
