Affordable Franke Orca-Type Sink w/ Grid Shelf?
Comments (6)Thanks, Everyone...The links and comments are helpful...and hsw_sc just saved me from uploading the photo of my previous Orca since hers is just like the one I had...and loved. Thanks also for the info on Ticor, a brand I've never seen before. We did our other remodel about 5 years ago, so maybe they are new? Is the Blanco made of silgranite? While searching for info on the Orca look-a-likes, I discovered lots of good comments and pictures of Silgranite. Is it new? Sounds like a possible option, and I'd welcome anyone's experience with that type of sink since it seems a lot less $ than the Orca. I hated to leave that beautiful, remodeled kitchen when we moved! We bought a new home that already had just about everything in it when we first saw it so I didn't get to choose sinks, granite, etc. It sure is easier that way, but I love remodeling, so I am glad to have this little condo kitchen project to keep me busy for awhile : ) Thanks for your comments. Since we are just in the beginning stages of our updating, I'll be checking out the forums a lot!...See MoreFranke Orca Sink?
Comments (34)Background: We're doing a kitchen remodel and need to make some sink decisions. I loved the Franke Orca when I saw it because it seemed really well made and I loved the grid because I thought it will very useful for draining pasta or wash/dry vegetables & fruits. The price seemed steep. In the meanwhile a friend suggested Blanco Silgranit. I liked that too, however I could find good accessories for draining washed vegetables (didn't like the basket). So I'm thinking of going with the Orca even though it is almost double the price. My questions - 1) With the Orca sink, if I use the grid on the right, where should the soap dispenser be. In the pictures and displays I've seen, it is on the right side. But if I'm using the right side shelf, should the soap dispenser be on the left? Because if the soap is the right I'll be wetting the things that are draining/drying on the right shelf? Can people who are using the sink please comment on where you think the soap dispenser should be? 2. Should I get the bottom grid as well? Do you find it useful or is it actually not needed? 3. Any thoughts on Franke Orca Vs. Blanco Silgranit? Thanks much....See MoreFranke Orca and Sink Base Size
Comments (1)Hmmm. Well, I don't have the exact answer you are looking for, but I have a Franke Orca in a 33" frameless sink cabinet, and there is not a lot of extra room ... Taking 1.5" off each side of the cabinet would make it a REALLY tight fit IMO. Maybe someone had planed down the inside edges of their sink cabinet ?...See MoreFranke Orca stainless steel sink finish
Comments (5)Do you have hard water? Hard water tends to make stains on stainless sinks but they can be removed with vinegar. Our family house at the beach has this problem, too, and the water also mucks up the faucet pulldown-spray (as in "can't fit the pulldown back into the base" it gets so gummed up). We clean everything with vinegar and it makes the sink and faucet look and work like new. As for an everyday cleanser on *my* sink, I use Barkeeper's Friend (which can also help rid the sink of stains) and the Franke Inox Cream on occasion. Neither will harm the marble around the sink (at least neither has hurt ours). HTH!...See Morefitzliz
