Spots on my limelight dracaena - cause for concern?

Hello everyone.

My limelight dracaena is pretty much my
first plant. I've had it for about a year now. So far is has been
thriving and happy, always sprouting new growth. I went to water my
plant today and notice some brown speckles on it. Photos are attached.
the overall plant seems to be fine - the spots are appearing on the older leaves of the
plant. What are these spots?

Also - I just repotted this plant
maybe about two months ago. (spots have appeared within past few days) Since repotting, the plant has formed some
sort of white on the ceramic pot - what is this? I keep reading it's
either salt or mold. Either way - should I be concerned about this? Or
can I leave it alone?

ps. I water is weekly - about a cup of water, and mist every so often.

It looks really happy! I'd say your taking good care of it.

Dracs can be sensitive to chemicals in tap water which may explain the brown spots. If you're using tap water and/or fertilizer, that may also explain the white deposits on the pot. I collect condensate from a dehumidifier in the basement and water with that. You can do the same with an air conditioner, or collect rain water to use. Also, dracs like to dry out a bit between waterings. Rather that watering often, many will suggest that you give a big thorough drink to the point that water is running out the bottom, then leave it alone until it's thirsty again. Probe deep into the soil with your finger or a chop stick or something to test moisture levels... or lift the pot and feel the weight. Heavy = wet. I may go 6-8 weeks between waterings during winter dormancy, and in summer, maybe every 2 weeks or so depending on the weather. Your terracotta pot will dry out faster than my plastic ones, though.

Well said. This isn't a plant that's particular about humidity, so I would encourage you to not mist. More likely to facilitate surface pathogens than do anything helpful for this pretty plant. Keep up the great work!

purple-- thanks so much! that info was awsome- now in my favorites~~ I cut off the leaves that had spots, wiped down the other leaves and put it away from the other plants, now crossing my fingers. There were some other spots starting to form, yellowing spots, I didn't read how it spreads tho, will the other plants that were around it get it if it was caused by misting? (no more misting btw) Looks kinda sad now tho, the larger leaves were the ones i had to cut off, so now it looks kinda sad, uneven, but it had to be done. Perhaps I shouldn't say anything, because I can't see the picture (computer at work has blocked it). However, I was reading up on "Rust" because I just bought a few daylilies that had streaky foliage, and I think that I have "leaf streak", which requires "At the very least, remove dead leaves with brown spots and streaks in the fall. DonÂt let these overwinter and provide inoculum for spring infections. Avoid overhead irrigation, which helps spread the spores. The third step is to use fungicide options if necessary. Compass is a product by Bayer that is registered for use on daylily for this disease. It contains trifloxystrobin and is a local penetrant, which means it is locally systemic and has limited movement in the plant. Thiophanate-methyl has a general ornamental label and has been shown to be effective at preventing infection by the leaf streak fungus." Thought I'd mention it in case you decide this might be what you have.

Well I suppose you could be in a spot where rust is a problem but this doesn't look like rust to me . I think you would see a lot more blades affected if it was rust . Ken...lol..you are hilarious! In answer to your questions... the plant has not been outside since I bought it this past spring. Normally it sits in the corner by the two windows on the other side of the Christmas tree and that vent is usually closed. It’s only been in its current location for two days. It’s temporary. I guess it could be damage from bumping into it. My husband’s recliner used to be in front of it But some of the spots are and leaves that haven’t really been touched by anything. I live near Denver Colorado so it’s pretty dry here. The guy at the plant store said that the rocks in the tray I have under it might be causing it to have too much humidity but most of the time here humidity is not an issue so I didn’t really get that. I think it is an optical illusion because the window is not flush with the door. The plant is right next to the window but then the door sit back from the window like a foot or so maybe two. I’m really bad at estimating measurement...lol. Do you think the part is too small for it? It’s the same pot that I bought it in but I’ve been thinking that it looks like it has ground salmon I don’t know if it’s getting too big for it or not. I’m also bad at that. I have to be careful that I don’t plant plants in pots that are too big for them.

Tiffany brings up a very good point about wet leaves and pathogens. I've
been fighting a leaf blight on my peace lily and keeping the leaves dry helps.
