Whats with my onions, Looking for all the onion tips I can get
Comments (12)Aulani - I just used wire hangers, twist/bend them apart and just stick them in the ground. If you want a more perminate approach you could sink rebar into the ground on either side, put pvc electrical conduit over one rebar and bend over to the corresponding rebar. I am thinking of doing this next year because the hangers will rust out pretty fast. Here is a link were you can purchase floating row cover from Johnny's flora2b - Thanks for the time frame, I have a metal halide light for over wintering plants so I will defiantly start some under it in January. I am figuring the seedlings I purchased were not started early enough, they were rather small, just two or three leaves....See MoreOnions edible year round
Comments (2)Thanks so much! I don't mind the bunching or bulbing, cause I just dice them up throw them in salads and recipes for flavor. I just have hundreds and actually will end up giving some to friends, and I didn't want to give them onions that weren't edible! :) I was also shocked about how many reseeded, because a lot of them did bolt last year. It was a crazy year for us. So many seasons in just one year....See MoreDo I NEED a type B avocado? What to plant for year round harvest?
Comments (11)I do grow each of those but mine are new. I was collecting info when I was trying to figure out what Avos to plant to get ones with good flavor and year round supply. The information was collected by me from different sources and 3 friends that are commercial or semi-commercial growers. I bought my trees from Clausen in Vista but don't see that info on their website. My friends are supplied by Maddock in Fallbrook but don't find that info on theirs either. It seems much of their sites are very different and the really nice chart of seasons on Maddock's is gone. I did save the PDF of their Citrus/Avo season chart....See MoreCan I get more than one season/year out of vinca?
Comments (5)It may depend on what kind of winter we have. If I were you, however, I'd consider the possibility of leaving them intact over the winter. I'd watch what happens, but wait till spring to cut them back. That way, if you get dieback, you'll at least have something to cut off that you didn't want to keep anyway. That said, because it's an annual (we're talking catharanthus--vinca rosea--not vinca minor, as in periwinkle/creeping myrtle, right?), even if it survives, it may not be as lovely and floriferous as it was this year. Stems get woody, and plants do get tired and bloomed out, especially if they've set seed. Kay...See Morebcomplx
