Glass Tile Backsplash Jitters
Comments (7)For our glass tile backpsplash, we were told highly-modified thinset had to be used. Our tile is white, well, clear glass, painted white on the back, so our tile guys used white thinset. They applied it directly onto the sheetrock. Ours is a mosaic that was mounted on mesh backing, so the grout line width was pre-determined. I believe they mixed up unsanded grout with some sanded grout (I have the ratio/proportions written down somewhere if you want it). We used regular TEC grout. If we were doing it today, we'd have them use TEC XT grout (more stain resistant, more crack resistant, with anti-mold and mildew agents already in it). They ran a bead of TEC siliconized latex caulk (in a matching color to the grout) at the base of the tile, where it meets the granite....See MoreGlass backsplash tile - no space between tile and granite counter
Comments (6)The wall is shared with the inside wall of the Garage. We did use the thinset recommended by the manufacturer (nice to know I did ONE thing right). I used 1/16" joints because we are also using strips of mosaic tile and I wanted all the joints to match. The manufacturer also recommended sanded grout, but now with my joints so small would it do any good to switch to unsanded? It is 5am and I am actually considering ripping all the tile off. Would that work? Would I be able to reuse the tile? Ugh, what a mess....See MoreBacksplash or no backsplash
Comments (20)So tired of hearing " but that will make it look dated" or "it wouldn't be good for resale" Everything is going to be dated at some point, the kitchen designers, cabinet companies and appliance companies make sure of that. Example: stainless steel appliances were just coming on the market 15 years ago when we gutted our kitchen for a remodel. It was hard for me to find stainless in my area at that time, I live in a small mid western town. So, have you noticed in the past few years appliance companies have been trying to bring out new colors, grayed looking stainless, now ice white etc. they are trying to make people think their stainless appliances are soon going to be "dated". But I have read in several articles that stainless is still the number one choice. I chose a cinnamon stained cherry wood for our new build. I thought about white because that is the trend right now, but I reasoned cherry cabinets will always be in style while the white trend Has just a few more years. I won't be a slave to trends. Just my opinion....See MoreKitchen Back-splash - Glass tiles FALLING OFF
Comments (3)Here is a link to google, how that backsplash should have been installed. There are some u tube videos too. I watched one video, where they used grout, between the countertop and the backsplash, and grout should not be used there. Caulking shud be done between backsplash and countertop. My backsplash is also caulked in all the corners, rather than grouted. Once you watch these videos and read these articles, you will see that your thinset was put on improperly, and thats why your tiles are falling off. Please read carefully. https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=uI4VW7HdLszKjwTtrqSoAw&q=how+to+install+glass+subway+tile+backsplash&oq=How+to+install+glass+subway+tile+&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0l3j0i22i30k1l3.3755.12143.0.14244.41.29.3.9.9.0.173.3348.9j20.29.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.41.3556...0i131k1j33i22i29i30k1.0.70wb9L5GlO8...See Moreandyscott
