Princess Mimi, your guardian angel....and Kirk's too!
Comments (50)You gals just have me cracking up reading this! I love the angels/fairies Karen is finding for all of us. Lord knows I sure can use one too since the old woman comes to visit here quite frequently too. She went off and left my garage door open the other day, and then this morning she even left the water running in the sink after brushing her teeth! I just don't know how to deal with her, so hopefully my angel/fairy will help! Nmgirl had me drooling over all those wonderful desserts she can make. Boy, talk about listing your qualifications. How could anyone say no to all that???? So glad you found an angel/fairy for her too. Susie, why do you get to hold the $$$$ and the chocolate too gal? And you thought no one would notice, huh? LOL Luvs...See MoreGuardian Angel or Angel Eyes
Comments (4)I'm checking to see about Angel Eyes, so far it is not listed as having any sports, so I must go another direction for it. But Guardian Angel originated as a sport of Blue Angel. Then GA has 6 sports of its own, including Fallen Angel, American Blue Guardian, Luc's Birthday, and Fire & Brimstone. It's other sport, American Angel, sported one of its own, called American Angel's Fire. (Info from MyHostas.be/sports/index ) Then, checking Blue Angel, I discover that Angel Eyes is another sport of it, just like Guardian Angel is. Quoting from the description MyHostas gives of this plant, first sentence says: "This is a white centered form of 'Blue Angel', similar to and possibly identical to the recently registered 'Guardian Angel'." You can go to the website and read the rest of the info there. So it seems you are keeping it all in the family with your new selection. Perhaps you can give it a couple of years and see whether they are identical or not. Under Guardian Angel, followed from Blue Angel link, it gives another sport, Comanche, for GA. It also lists that American Angel (VanWade) is a "superior" version of GA and its color holds true all season. Said to be a Large hosta. But I recommend you look up and read all about it. Fascinating trail of hosta history in this web site....See MoreMaking my Guardian Angel fly...
Comments (4)Guardian Angel is slow for me, too. I think you can boost its growth rate by giving it more bright light, but it will burn up with too much sun, too. As to the coloring - you've got two leaves that look good, and three with not much marking - but since they all appear to come from the same eye, it would seem you haven't lost part of it to sporting back to Blue Angel. I have one nice GA, but as it grew I did, occasionally, remove eyes that were all blue or didn't have striking markings. The plant that was left is very distinctive and good sized (though nothing like the size of Blue Angel) but it took 10 years or so to get there......See MoreCan't Decide: Guardian Angel or Golden Meadows?
Comments (14)Those two plants are sooooo different! Here, both are planted in heavy shade. Golden Meadows wops the daylights out of guardian angel for growth. this makes sense since golden Meadows is far greener later in the season and therefore more chlorophyll. what a difference the age of the plant and the growing zone makes in terms of variagation lost through the season. here the guardian angel loses none and the golden Meadows remains with some, albeit subtle but certainly not entirely green. the golden Meadows becomes a much fuller plant than the Guardian Angels airiness. it's a really tough choice but if I had to make it golden Meadows wins. then again we have beauty queen to make up for it. fwiw, hh...See Morekoffman99
