Tallaway Farmhouse Plan - anyone built this?
Comments (25)Congratulations! It’s a terrifically livable floor plan. We made just a few changes to Mitch Ginn’s original floor plan. Have been in about 15 mos. and wouldn’t change a thing! Where are you building?...See MoreAnyone built the Pleasant Cove house plan?!
Comments (80)Did any of you that have built this home with a basement consider a side entry on same side as the garage? We are planning to build this home in middle TN in the best year and are working on our plans. I really would like a split type entry, garage and basement on same even (taking into account I have to make footprint bigger to accommodate this). Any thoughts would be appreciated....See MoreHas anyone built this plan or know of the designer?
Comments (11)You guys are rough.... Some people apparently like the look of garages and I won't argue that point. But the friendship door right next to a front door? I have a friendship door now because I have a side load garage. I don't like the concept after building it this way 8 years ago but my wife still does. Either way, in this layout it is truly confusing. There is a spec house in my area that also has a friendship door on the front of the house - less confusing than this one. But our friendship doors that in style? It confuses guests and their hosts. Which door are they coming to? Are they driveway parkers or road parkers? Do they pull close to the garage doors or near the end of the driveway? Options can be confusing. Next house - 1 door! Circular drive for guests. And some people like dark houses. I love that the only uncovered front elevation window is into a closet - that will really spill the light everywhere. And how the brightest room in the house by far is the master bedroom. At least the cars will have a sunny spot to park with uncovered windows on 3 sides. But I get it - the front garage is huge for a modest house. And that driveway - a full 3 cars wide. There is a house around these parts with a 5 bay front load garage and the house sits on top. There is an entry way between the garage doors that heads back to the kitchen/family room. Kind of looks like a place you take your car to get serviced. Husband designed it - big car guy. DIfferent strokes I guess. Mark - I have to say I was kind of annoyed by your tone on one of my threads but you do make me laugh.......See MoreHAS ANYONE BUILT ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNS PLAN #75406GB?
Comments (13)I lived in a custom build (I didn't build it) that was really close to this floor plan. The bonus room still haunts my wife 10 years later and as such our builds never have slanted ceilings anywwhere. The pic doesn't appear to match the dormers in the floor plan. There are fairly big design problems with this house - the most significant is the 3 materials on the elevation along with an excess of gables. This gives it a chaotic overly complicated look that is always discouraged here (and any similar forum I am sure). When people are first dreaming of building a house, they are usually drawn to complexity - thinking that more is better. Time and experience gets most people to change this way of thinking - although not always. Imagine this forum as "Devil Wears Prada" - Meryl Streep. This floorplan is Anne Hathaway's original outfit....See Moreswhitt0250
