When I heard that Jason added a new sauce to his lineup, I
had to try it. And I’m very glad I did,
the ‘Pirate’s Revenge’ could well be the best thing I ever tasted. It’s billed as a hotter version of ‘Pirate’s
Ghost’ (where the PG has a mix of a little bit of roasted bhuts with a lot of
mild peppers, Pirates Revenge is ALL roasted superhots including Morugas,
Reapers, Naglahs, jigsaws, 7pot bubblegum, etc.) and there is definitely
continuity of flavor between the two sauces.
I’m not at all a food critic but to my palate I taste rum, black
pepper and a bit of garlic.
In addition to the more intense heat, ‘Pirate’s Revenge’
features a flavor that has matured. What
I mean is, the earlier offering “Pirate’s Ghost” is a bold sauce that almost hits you over the
head with an in-your-face explosion of flavor – you can tell right away what
this sauce is getting at. On the other
hand, ‘Pirate’s Revenge’ seems somehow more refined in spite of its greater
heat. The same flavors are present but
they seem somehow better melded together and the combined effect is much
greater than the sum of the parts.
While Jason has rated this sauce 5 out of 5 on his heat
scale, the heat is much different than his other 5-rated sauce, Instant
Death. “Pirate’s Revenge” is certainly
very hot but the heat builds slowly, accumulating behind the lips. Since I found the sauce so delicious that I just
kept having more, I learned that the delayed heat just continues to build
over an extended sampling period.
I also received another bottle of ‘Instant Death’ which
Jason tells me has improved over the original batch. I’ve not had a chance to try it yet but when
I do I’ll provide a review here as well.
If anyone else has tried the new ‘Pirate’s Revenge’ sauce, please join in and share your impressions.
