I picked up a couple of clearance plants at Lowes . . .

They were in the back on carts and they all looked awful. But the tag said 50% off the yellow clearance sticker. I bought one gallon-size Crimson Butterflies Gaura and one smaller pot of Summer Daze Prunella. Both were $1.50 each. I have no experience with either, but I figured for the whopping investment of $3.00 I'd give the a try. So far, they look a lot better by just watering them. I did cut off the spent flower spikes on the prunella, but I haven't planted it yet. I put the gaura in between two Powis Castle artemisia plants. I dug a pretty big hole and filled it with sand. I read on line that the main reason gaura doesn't live is that the main tap root rots over the winter if the soil doesn't drain really well. I have prairie soil clay, so maybe the sand will help. I also planted it high and mounded sand around it so that when it settles, it should still be ok. I'm excited to see what they do.
