I spoke too soon! They're starting to germinate very nicely. I'll bet I was mistaken about planting them all on the same day......I probably planted the container a day after the ones in the ground. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to reply.

thanks George, I wish we could moderate the weather a bit in both locations, and since I posted this the weather has continued to remain cool and wet, every day but two in June and so far the same in July, there is a warning issued that all of the northeast is dealing with late blight attacking tomatoes and potatoes big time. the bean seeds were new and appeared to be fine, there is something call seed rot that I am going to find out more about. sometime seeds are treated to prevent rotting in the soil when conditions are like we are having now. I am also going to see if I can treat the seeds myself before planting though another approach is to plant the seeds in a row that has been lined with sterile soil such as used for seed starting or treating the soil in the row with something before depositing the seeds. I am learning that this is what gardening is all about. solving one problem after another while at the same time not causing another. sounds like prescription drugs to me.

Began harvesting dry seed from most plants in the row on August 20th, 84 days from sowing; the first few pods were ready at 80 days. The plants are loaded with pods & have fallen over (nearly 100% lodging) but they continue to flower & make new pods. Still no sign of even rudimentary runners, so this appears to be true bush habit. (In contrast, a cowpea that was bush habit the first time I grew it, has short runners this year.) Originally, I thought the seed sent to me was white seed aged brown; but having now opened the first dry pods, it turns out to really be brown seed. I taste tested some of the cooked immature pods. At that stage, they had fattened & appeared to be partially filled, but were still hollow inside with only tiny, undeveloped seeds. The lightly boiled pods were very delicate, like green-bean-flavored snow peas... including the strings, which I had removed before cooking. They are much less substantial than the vining, purple-podded hyacinth beans I grew previously. Based upon their ever blooming habit, it appears this variety would supply immature pods nearly continuously. The mature pods dry down very slowly, even more slowly than snap peas. I had to pick the first nearly-dry pods as rain approached... they had dried very little after a couple days indoors, so I put them under a fan to prevent molding. Will try to post more photos soon.

I had a very rough weekend and was late getting this set up. As of last night (day 1) the two batches of seed smelled like wet corn with maybe a hint of fermentation. The 2014 grown batch should be almost completely viable, but I wanted it for a comparison/baseline. Is there a corn forum I can post this test in? I can't seem to find one. :)
