Results are in! 75 worms 6 months later.
Comments (15)Sorry Andrew, I didn't answer your question. Yes, they were all adults (no cocoons or vemricompost added to start). Thanks Borderbarb, I'll keep home schooling in mind. The possibilites really are endless, aren't they? Couldn't help myself, I started seasoning another bin today (that'll be bin 9, the final piece in the puzzle). I've left cardboard to soak for a few days, then I'll add some compost (ex "hot" compost bin) and some food (maybe 2 cups of kitchen blended scraps), and leave to brew up for a fortnight. This time, I might add more worm than I started my others with. I think I'll do a sort from bin 1 (again, yes I know, poor planning, should have been ready to go now! Oh well.)and add a couple of hundred, just to boot things along a bit. Cheers...See Morewalk away the pounds #5 - fresh start
Comments (25)Kathy, please don't leave. I am still here. I just can't find much time to get on here with my mom visiting. I hate to get on the computer and just leave her sitting. Mom is leaving Saturday, and I am going to get back into working out for sure. I have really neglected it and I can tell. Although with all the eating I have done this month off of my diet, I am down two pounds past my goal I set for myself back into July when I went on the south beach diet. I set a new goal for myself, so I want to loose a few more pounds by January. Please stay,Kathy!...See MoreGood quality American drawer based kitchen cabinets?
Comments (29)Don't know exactly what you mean buy "rustic modern". I assume it would be wood and not high gloss paint. As someone who has built, study and reverse engineered Euro cabinets for many years I can tell you that I know of no "major" US manufacturer who builds this type of cabinets. Henrybuilt and Downsview in Canada do a pretty good job but still not the same and neither would be inexpensive. A custom guy could, maybe, but most have never even seen one of these kitchens in person so at best you will get some interpretation of a modern kitchen which can vary greatly depending how much he's willing to go out of his way. Being in Los Angeles I have access to all the showrooms; Boffi, Poggen Pohl, Varenna, Sandario etc. I visit them regularly and have been on many job sites where theses kitchens were being installed and got to get up close and personal with them. What goes into making a kitchen like this and how much you care how close it really is is the question. When someone ask me to copy one of these kitchens I sort of get obsessed with being as exact as possible. But that's me. I use a lot of the same European components. Hardware, veneer, Italian paint or clear coat and construction methods. The other important thing is the proportions. Each line I mentioned builds theirs and little differently but they are definitely not the same look as American made cabinets. You really need to define what you like before you can make that happen which ever way you go. John...See MoreWeek 29: When is "done" good enough?
Comments (33)Makes sense, OB2B! Annkh, you can do this. Keep in mind I tore things out and added drawers to existing cabinets. It'll seem easy after all the stuff you've done! Today is a HUGE day. Hanging my kitchen cabinets and clearing off a counter has given me the boost to start things inside. The space is incredible. One thing moved means 30 other things need to be moved, and the only way to get them out of the way is to install them. So... I've saved and saved and accomplishing this today (if everyone comes like they've said they will!): I have 2 fellows coming to take all my building and hardscape materials back to the barn. All I'll have left is a place to build another garden bed and the materials for that. I'll be able to see my house. If you picture HD's lumber and paving materials area, mine puts theirs to shame for so much stuff packed into a small space. Then we have the back porch, but that's another day. I have H4H coming to take away two, too big pieces I've agonized over. I'm going to give them all the antique doors I bought before I realized my doors were 32" not 30. Other crap, too. With the advent of all this space, I've consolidated furniture and stuff into the den. My friend and her son are coming to sand the LR ceiling and paint it and the walls. I will have 2 rooms in my home painted. The nice thing is that it'll be a clean slate, where I can put just the appropriate furniture and even hang things on the walls. I am SOOOOOOO excited. Now I need to get off the computer and continue to move things. I like things to be ready so people can go to work. When I have enough to pay someone, I'm not going to waste time and $$ with them moving or cleaning. I'll post befores and afters if I can, later!...See Morea2gemini
