Bury the stem of dwarf plant?

Hi! I just received a Rosella Purple Dwarf plant today that I'm planning on transplanting this weekend into a container. Do you bury the stem of dwarf varieties as you would other tomato plants? I believe this plant gets maybe 3-4' tall. Also, it's only about 8" now and already has a little tomato on it. Should I leave it? I was surprised to see it on such a small plant. However, I've never seen a dwarf plant before.

I wouln't remove the fruit. In craig's book, who is co founder of the dwarf project, he says leaving the fruit on won't hurt the plant.

Dwarf a vague title. I have one that is 4ft already and another one about one foot tall.
The one in your picture looks like true "Dwarf" to me. So you won't need to bury it much deeper.. I would bury it maybe one inch more than what it is now.

Is it all twisted and bent like that due to packaging and shipping? Hope it all straightens out. Yeah I'd remove that fruit.

karenrei - I'm sure you've researched PSB and know it needs a long growing season. This year's are about 3 inches tall now (in seed modules in the porch). I am in the process of hardening them off and then they will be planted out in a couple of weeks. But I will not be harvesting until next Feb/March/April. (There is still a bit to harvest on last winter's plants) Do you think yours will overwinter in your zone? Also, if you have never grown it before be prepared for much smaller heads than on green broccoli. It looks like this. (Taken in April) But the flavour is terrific. You can eat the tender leaves around the head too. (BTW don't be tempted by the 1/4 pound of seed unless you are a farmer. It has very high germination and I would plant maybe four or five plants per person in your family.)

Burying tomatoe stems for root bound, leggy plants

I dig a trench about 3 inches deep if that will accommodate the root ball or just enlarge the end where you are putting the root ball and lay the rest of the stem in the trench and cover with soil. Of course you can dig the trench deeper if you'd like but at least 3in deep. The top of the plant should not be covered, of course, and I prop up the top with a small nursery pot until it starts growing, usually a week or so. I got a great deal on a bull's heart which was pot bound in a tiny pot and so leggy and tall the stem could not support it, I planted it as I described and it is now healthy and has several beautiful tomatoes on it, not yet ripe. You do have to be careful where you dig after you plant a tomato this way and I water this tomato differently then my others, making sure I water over the whole stem area. I always mark the area with something to remind me where the stem is to I don't forget and dig a hole and ruin the tomato. Yeah, it is a good technique for the really tall and spindly tomatoes.

Help/Advice for a rubber plant lower stem buried in soil

I just bought a rubber tree from an online store and when it was delivered half it had some of its lower stalk and leaves buried in the soil with leaves sticking out of the soil. Is that normal? Should I remove the excess soil or try to repot it? i Was very excited for it but now I’m worried and a little disappointed in the condition it was delivered in :(

Sey, thanks for clearing that up for me. I did a little search online but couldn't really get a clear answer.

Dave, yeah I'm assuming it's from shipping. It's straightening rather quickly. The others I ordered from the same company (The Tasteful Garden) were the same, but eventually grew out of it.

Shoot... I was hoping you wouldn't say that. I'll remove the fruit... dagnabbit ;) lol

I am growing some dwarfs, in cluding Rosella Crimson (not purple).

Your plant and the fruit on it might be near mature size . So I would keep it..

I have a dwarf about 12" tall with 3 fruits and lot of flowers on it

While my 5ft plants have no fruits yet.

Tomatoes don't like to be called dwarfs, call them little tomatoes.
