What I found when cleaning the Shed!
Comments (7)I don't think I've ever seen two opossums in one nest, but maybe cold is a factor. Did you let out a yelp when you opened the flew? You may want to let them stay where they are, that way if you ever have any trouble with them (bothering chickens?) you know right where to find them. Erin points out their funky look, but I once bottle fed a litter of babies for Wildlife Rescue and the babies are so ugly that they're actually cute. Good for you cleaning out the shed. I spent yesterday digging/cleaning a drainage ditch next to the house. Sometimes you just gotta do the yucky work. Feels good to get it done though. Comments (20)Hiya Pug, Thanks so much, it was thoughtful & kind of you to bump this up so Tish & I could read the Stemma article about Ruby Sue & Royal Flush. I can't read pdf files at home either (I don't have current versions of Adobe Acrobat, Tish that mey be your problem as well). But my office computers are current & much more secure than home; was able to read it no problem (& of course, the pix are SUPERB. I even recognize pix of Gabi's H. multiflora, from later in the issue). Fascinating to hear from Herman Engelman's nursery man about their planning to upgrade their mix. I like that they copped to having made up the name "Snow Caps". Wish they'd do the same for "Stripes" which is actually Curtisii. Now, if only there'd been a way to ask why so many of their plants come mis-labeled. Guessing that wouldn't have been too gracious for a visitor to their greenhouse. So these ARE 2 new variants of Lacunosa, like I didn't love it enough already! But the one that really makes my heart flutter is the Lacunosa that has small dents in the leaves, almost like a miniature Krinkle 8. Is this the one they call Lacunosa 'Tove'? I find it from time to time, but don't have any currently. Anyway, thanks again, VERY interesting reading!...See MoreShould I even mow? And corn meal?
Comments (3)Subject to my wife's objections, I have stopped mowing in this heat. This heat is unusual even for us. Normally we get moist winds from the gulf but these are dry winds from everywhere else. We are limited to watering one time per week. We can water an unlimited amount from 8-10pm and 3-8am, one day per week. My day was Tuesday. I'm going to get more Sears Craftsman hoses and oscillating sprinklers this week. Compost would be good to apply now if that's in your budget. No more than 1 cubic yard per 1,000 square feet. Sweep it down with a broom or drag a piece of chain link over the yard after you get it more or less scattered around. You can probably get Dillo-Dirt compost from Dromgoole's nursery. The idea of the drag is to lift all the grass out of the compost so the compost will sift down to the soil. Otherwise St Aug will smother easily under compost. When you mow the next time you're going to have to ignore the 1/3 rule. I do that all the time with no apparent problems. I mow from 9 inches down to 4....See MoreLook what I found when I was looking for pepper plants
Comments (4)Great find Noto! It's a pity that these variegated crassulas tend to have these brown marked leaves, mine are too, and everyone else that posts about them seems to mention it. Why is it a feature of them, anyone know? Nice colour on the Hummels also. Gill...See More- 11 years ago
