Converting a closet to useable space?
Comments (5)I turned one small hall closet (think its 36" wide) into a stand up desk area. Depending on what you plan to do with the room long term, and your local codes, etc. some places require that in order to be able to count a room as a bedroom, it must have a closet. Just for consideration....See MoreHelp! How to decorate a home office with light gray-blue walls
Comments (12)Beautiful trim, gorgeous floor the current color will work of course. Going more mid-tone can be pretty amazing too Is the apartment yours, or is it rental? I'm asking because I'd be inclined to go with custom shades as not to obscure that trim..but of course only if the place is mine And I'd pick probably woven grass ones. Shades of natural brown, you know? Or you can go with fabric too. But if the walls stay light-I won't go too dark. Same with curtains. Or. If it's curtains..look at many..you might get inspired by the color you see in ones you like a lot, and "borrow" similar one for your walls. Rug can become an inspiration too. Again, you really don't have to repaint to get the vibe you want....See MoreHome office - in the living room!
Comments (10)My wife has worked home for many years and we’ve just finished renovating a bedroom in a 70’s house into a home office. What you might think about in your situation is that two significant considerations for her that went into the office planning process were: Lighting; IMO, few homes have adequate lighting for extended periods at a desk in a home office setting, particularly for middle aged eyes. She works from a larger desk now than she needed when she did her school homework. Additionally, effective video chats have less distractions when the subject and background are well lit with few shadows. Our goal was multiple light sources to try and imitate a TV studio to flood the desk and surrounding area in light. The better lighting has resulted in a lot less fatigue and eye strain. Electrical outlets; modern homes are better supplied, but older homes often have too few outlets for the electrical demands of a modem office. Computer, monitor, printer, desk lighting for video calls, phone charging, WiFi hubs, etc., all meant some additional outlets for us otherwise we’d have cords everywhere. My goal was to put electrical outlets near the electrical loads to minimize cord runs and trip hazards. The wife has her sewing machine, sewing table and fabric layups in the office as well as a small table and chairs that our son will take back with him “one day”, so the room is cluttered. It doesn’t really matter. Just so long as it’s neat in the background for her conference calls. The electrical upgrades have been wonderful. It’s worked for her....See MoreHow to declutter small bedroom that also needs to be a home office?
Comments (12)The hamper can be moved. So, I don’t want to fixate in that one aspect. I think the main issue is the workspace. I want to replace those 2 separate pieces with something that serves the same purpose with a smaller footprint and replace that folding chair with a proper ergonomic office chair. The slider opens from the right. The control is on the left just so it’s more convenient to open and close while sitting on the bed. The actual slider glass isn’t opened as closed nearly as often as the sliding panels. The Windows desktop is required because there is a need to run multiple Windows virtual machines for training purposes. I can replace that tower with a Windows PC similar in size into a Mac Mini and mount it behind the TV if needed, but I still need a keyboard/mouse tray that’s at a lower height than the main desk surface. No need to access the PC remotely and have to walk to another area to turn it on and off if it can just be hidden behind a flat screen TV in arm’s reach of where you would be sitting....See Morejakabedy
