Do rabbits eat peonies?
Comments (7)The rabbits in my area do not appear to be interested in peonies. They have nibbled on my roses to bare canes but seem to leave my peonies plants intact. They do not seem to care for dahlias or daylilies either. You should consider planting Itoh peonies because they grow faster than tree peonies, the canes are sturdy and the flowers bloom for an extended period due to the buds opening at different time. The shrub has a nice form with interesting foliage and the flowers are huge. Monrovia has a nice selection of itoh peonies....See MoreDo Rabbits Eat Your Plants?
Comments (7)Connie, my parents live on Granny White near Tyne and the deer eat their stuff all the time. Last year we got some blackberry bushes at the swap and my mom planted them inside wire cages and the deer still got in. They have fences around their vegetables and fruits and the deer still get in. They live close enough to Radnor to get deer in the backyard fairly often. They don't usually come down close to the house so my mom is hoping to get some more blackberris and try them near the house. I live in Crieve Hall and have not had really a problem with rabbits eating things. I planted some lettuce a couple weeks ago and was worries about the rabbits but so far it is fine. I do have a lot of rabbits and have had some flowers eaten but am not sure the rabbits were the culprits. I had some moss roses all eaten to the ground a couple summers but last summer they were fine. Some hostas were eaten last year but not until later in the summer. Again, not sure what ate them. Comments (26)This is what a rose cane looks like when chewed on by a carnivore: Here is the guilty party: I know she did it because I saw her do it. Not a problem as the cane was dead, but I still moved a temporary garden fence to block access to that rose (a rare one naturally--Rosa arnoldiana 'khirghisia'). Gizi is a Kuvasz and she LOVES veggies and fruits of all kinds. Lettuce? Delicious. Add carrots, broccoli, asparagus, tomatoes, oranges (including the peel, even when green), potatoes, etc to the list. Grasses are a delicacy (I have added many CA native forage grasses in part to satisfy her liking for green snacks). Near the top of her munchies list are rosehips. She adores nibbling those off the roses. If no rosehips, then she isn't averse to gnawing on canes--dead or alive. So I have to watch Miss Greedy Guts! All my pot ghettos have fences around them....See MoreDo rabbits eat your iris?
Comments (5)My iris are outside of my bunny proof back yard as well. I was inspecting them the other day and noticed big plump buds on them. I moved them last year so there were no blooms. . . I would think this would be the time they would devour them if they were so inclined. The bunnies did eat the tulips next to them tho....See Morehc mcdole
