Yes, the red leaves are the earlier growth, and they actually look a little greener today. I guess I didn't remember them being so red last year, and the other 2 varieties don't look red or fuzzy. A photo is below... do you all think that is "normal fuzziness" or powdery mildew on the shoots (bottom left corner especially)?

Samuel: Although I don't know the particulars of the situation like the exact plant and what its new growing conditions will be etc., I can tell you this. I bought three roses from Rite Aid this year and they all had PM. I sprayed them with a baking soda/dish soap mix, removed a few leaves and just brushed the occasional spot off with my thumb when I noticed it. I found that once the plants were someplace they could get good sun and breathe the problem cured itself very shortly. And that was a lot more pleasant than spraying the plant with anything. You will get bigger better pumpkins if you prevent powdery mildew so the vine can photosynthesize to its maximum potential. Since it already has spread substantially and probably has spores on all of your leaves, you might as well just let it take it's course, but next year use a sulfur based fungicide in powder or liquid form (I prefer mixing powder with water because the liquid is so expensive and use it so fast and powder is hard to apply). Leaving the PM is like letting a cloud cover set in until it is so thick that it is like night time all the time and the leaf is useless or negatively hurting the plant by consuming extra nutrients to feed the parasite.
