I just got back from Upland Nursery and there's a good sized Thornton's Lemondrop for sale there right now. It's labeled "Lemon Drop" but it's blooming and is definitely Thornton's. It's a forked tree (y shaped) with one inflo on each branch and pushing out new branches around those inflos. 5 gallon for $99, which I didn't think was too bad for the size considering their prices on other things.

No, that looks very different in flower and stem from TLD. TLD is very compact and has fuzzy branches with a greyish tint, and the blooms have very little white on the edges. Smells like sharp lemon, too.

Thank you, guys! I was told by the Willises that Maverick is to pinks what Lemon Drop is to yellows. The only big difference is so far the tips are only going to break into one new branch instead of multiples like LD. Maybe with age she'll get branchier. I'll keep the pics coming. You're right, Mona, from what I can tell the only 5-petaled bloom it has is the really deformed one. Weird, right? Yes, her tips and new leaves are fuzzy, like Aztec Gold's and Spider's. (And I happen to know Wendy had another DS when I got mine.) Robert, 16 is nothing; you're not considered "diagnosable" until 25. :P K, not only do I carry one outside, I have a dedicated "garden measuring tape".

Moonie, I'll send you the same info. FC has what they call Thornton Lemon and they confirmed by email that it is Thornton Lemon Drop and they do have them available. I just didn't want grafted as I think LD is pretty easy to root and vigorous. Jen
