Burning tongue symdrome?

I have had this problem on-going for about a year or so. My tongue feels like it is burning...and I can not find anything that helps. My Dr. told me to take B Complex, but that does not seem to help at all. Ideas are welcome...thanks

PS I do have Barrett's Esophagus and

am taking Nexium, Protonix, and Zantac for that.

OT. I read somewhere from GW that your house was built by Amish. I plan to build a house by Amish/Mennonite and want to ask you some questions. I thought it is best to PM you but couldn't figure out how.

I have the same problem, I think it related to the lichen sclerosis that I have. No cure for it just don't use any tooth paste or mouth wash that is minty or cinnamon. Dr told me years ago not to use mouth wash, it can burn your mouth. He had patients who came in with inflamed mouths, turned out to be their mouth wash.

Hello everyone! I'm so very excited to have finally discovered a remedy for GT! As I described in my previous post, certain foods such as coffee bean oil (in espresso and minimal processing coffees) and chocolate without a doubt bring on my GT. I believe that these foods compromise my immune system's ability to fight certain foreign invaders, particularly fungus on the tongue. How did I come to this conclusion? Because Nystatin Oral Suspension rinse works! It totally caught me by surprise, but in my desperation, I gave it a try. GT (in my case anyway) is a manifestation of a systemic defect. Nystatin takes care of the expression of the symptoms of a systemic problem. I was so focused on fixing the problem from the inside out (Vitamin B12 helped) and missed a huge part of the boat! Since I don't want to stay on Nystatin for the rest of my life, I began researching for mouth rinses that have anti-microbial activity. My adventure lead me to an alcohol free natural mouth rinse that contains herbs. It's called "PerioWash" by Nauture's Answer. I'm so excited about having gotten to the root of this problem. I hope the PerioWash will continue to work for years to come and not result in fungal resistance. I hope my discovery helps all of you as it has helped me. Ask your doctor for a prescription of Nystatin Oral Suspension rinse and see if your problem is a fungal one like mine was! I had read that Nystatin helped other people, but didn't believe and thought it was too far out. I finally experienced it for myself.

There is so much info on the internet and none of it seems to be right or perfect. They say GT is not contagious, and I know it's not, but my experience has been weird. My first encounter with GT was my daughter at 9 months old. It got worse over time and took me months to realize it was GT. Then 6 months later I STARTED SEEING GT ON MY OWN TONGUE for the first time in my life at 32 years old. That freaked me out. For both of us it has been coming and going for 2 years since then. I even saw a patch on my four year old's tongue once around the time that my GT started and then it never came back. They say its not usually painful, but I feel it starting and it hurts when it spreads. My daughter gets them worse on the side of her tongue when teething and I think mine is worse with carbs and sugar. That makes me think its an immune response, but why am I just getting this now after my daughter. Ugh. I may try the ECHINACEA. GT is sooo annoying and it is a big deal even if its not "serious" because of quality of life.

Yes, of course, my "common sense" approach to the burning of grasses would preclude doing it under conditions of "red flag" fire warnings and the like. I hope that went without saying. So there! ;) Overall, I've got to say that over the past couple days, this thread degenerated into one of the stupidest ones I've seen on GardenWeb in quite some time. And sadly, I feel my contributions were to blame for that stupidity more than anything else (except possibly for hortster...). So, I'd like to extend a sincere apology to all y'all for having dragged you down to my level in this fashion. On Holy Week, no less! I'm sorry. Red Savina or Devil's Tongue?

I'll echo the statement that red savinas are erratic as far as heat goes. You do get SOME really hot pods off them. If I want a red habanero I'd go with carribean reds which produce as well if not better under adverse conditions and are more consistent with the heat/pungency. Chocolate habs would probably be the hottest I've grown and are also consistent. You really do have to remember that growing conditions will play a part in the heat and flavor of the peppers so YMMV compared to others. Red Savina is the world record holder(at the moment) so its nice to be able to say you are growing the hottest pepper but unless you have a really reputable seed supplier there is also a good chance of growing Carribean Reds since I've seen quite a few online dealers and nurseries claim that Red Savina and Carribean reds are the same cultivar. Since Reimer's has been mentioned I can't go without stating that Reimer's is the most dis-reputable seed dealer on the internet or anywhere else. I base this off personal experience as well as correspondence with many chile-heads over the years who suffered the same treatment as myself at their hands. Reimer's should definitely be avoided and if you refuse to heed a friendly warning then I would suggest that you at least have some form of back-up plan for when your seeds from reimers don't germinate so your growing season isn't completely ruined.

Phoggie I just reread your post. Be very careful of those drugs. I took them unknowingly for 6 months and it left me with a very itchy head. I get sores on my scalp that causes my hair to fall out and I have to use steroids to control the itching. Also the pills rebounded on me and made my stomach problem worse

phoggie, this has happened to me. Came on suddenly and I've had a burning tongue off and on for about 4 months now. I am trying hard to figure out what is triggering it. I've just had a complete blood panel done (don't yet know the results) because my doctor says things like low iron, B12, or zinc may cause it. I've had some history of anemia so I suspect it might be iron, coupled with changes in the body due to menopause. So far I can't see a pattern with what I eat or don't eat. The one thing that really makes it burn is coffee--and I've had coffee every day of my life for 40 years. I've cut down a lot but have found that it is not coffee in the stomach but the coffee on the tongue. So I brush my teeth and tongue carefully right after. In fact brushing my tongue after eating anything is helping a great deal--make sure nothing lingers on the tongue. Something about the taste buds appears to have gone into high action. I wish I could explain it better--or knew what this baffling thing is! There are some days when I feel no burning at all, and other days when it is very disturbing.
