coolspot, I have seen many posts saying that in Canada Miele is way more expensive than others. OTOH, I think you have lower costs for Blomberg, LG and the BSH family (Bosch, Thermador, etc). All good. Measuring noise, and hearing noise is still quite subjective after all is said and done. A "deciBel" is a comparative scale -- it's not a "number" in a regular numbering system (called "absolute numbering"). Although they use instruments to measure noise, it's compared to a reference noise (and this gives dBA)... and a lot of other factors impinge on your feeling of noise so it's not as simple as just comparing a spec sheet and seeing one is at 48 dBA and another is at 54 dBA ..... I grew up with SubZero (36"). The 60''s version had a door on the bottom freezer and a swing out basket. The pullout drawer basket in the 80's version was an improvement. I assumed I'd be getting SubZero, but when I was shopping I never settled on a configuration for fridge and freezer that suited me, and I didn't like the way the ones with full overlay opened--they only went to about 90 degrees and I don't like that. I got special cabinet hinges to avoid that too. I ended up with 30" Miele all fridge and all freeezer. The 30" sizes were better for me, I like the shallow door baskets and deeper shelves and drawers (including some that go the full depth of the fridge instead of being recessed for the door basket--good for platters. I like the shelves: sturdy, adjustable and a frame on the glass, wire in the freezer. I love the lighting--pairs of halogens on each side in each section. Amazing lighting. And I super love the hinges which open out and away. They haven't been installed for long enough for me to say more and the kitchen isn't finished. 30" is a little tight by American standards for fridge and freezer, so make sure the layout for storage will really let you use the whole space. The Liebherrs are actually well laid out (though I think some people don't like the height). Is there anywhere you can see the GE in person? Rattle the shelves? Feel out the space for yourself?

" stoby - I couldn't tell exactly what you were thinking, internet posts are hard to infer tone from. I was just posting food for thought for you, and fodder for the masses to further the discussion. I can't comment on your specific fridge / install and we all know that there are crappy service techs out there, so it's quite possible you were being "massaged" However - I have personally seen / heard a $8k + install that was functioning "normally" that the client insisted there was/is a problem with because the fridge made the wa wa sound. I'm not telling you that yours is normal - I have no idea as I'm not there and have no experience with Samsungs. It's possible that it is though - and its "normal" is just not suitable for your lifestyle/ expectations. No problem with that at all. We all make that call on dozens of products a week.

@alizacf, do you have the opportunity to "beef up" the floor in the new laundry room? It would be a good idea. I have the W4842/T9822 - virtually identical to the new IntelliQ with a few minor differences. Mine are located in my basement laundry so I have no issues at all (tile over concrete floor). I have a friend who has hers in a top floor laundry room and she has no issues either. However, they are custom home builders and they beef up the floors in the laundry rooms. This is what is in Miele's manual re: installation: "Installation site For best performance front loading washers should be installed on the ground floor or basement of the building. A concrete or reinforced floor is the most suitable surface for the washer. These floors are less prone to vibration during the spin cycle. If the installation must be on a wooden joist floor: - the corner of a room where the stability of the floor is at its greatest is the best place to install the washer. - the machine must be levelled and securely positioned. - to avoid vibration while spinning, the machine should not be installed on soft floor coverings. - Install the unit on a 1 1/4" (32 mm) thick, 28" x 31" (71x78 cm) wide plywood base. Ideally the base should be large enough to span several joists and should be anchored to the joists and not just the floor boards." Having the display on the the 200 is a nice feature. I went with the W4842 for that reason. It�s nice to see how long the program(s) you are selecting will take.
