bk A nice looking hosta, but Rainforest Sunrise it is not. I don't know what it may be.

How long have you had it in your garden? Is it new?

It was one of several I got in 2013 from G.W. Wild and Sons. It was a TC, but I didn't know that when I ordered. I assumed it was a regular sized hosta that was on sale. The guy who handles the garden part of the business told me in 2010 or 2011 that they got their starts from a company in Minnesota. In 2009, they were still selling nice sized field grown plants. Somewhere in between then and 2013, they changed to half rotten TC's (and apparently have new owners).

I lost most of them over that winter. It was still TC size last year and is beginning to look like a hosta this year. It was labeled Rainforest Sunrise, I think. At least I had one that was labeled that. I'm not sure it's the same one, but I can't figure out what it is if it's not that.

Give it some more time. Mine had a setback last couple years and has noticeably smoother smaller juvenile leaves this year. One reason why many growers will grow tc's for an additional year or two is to make sure they are true to type. Perhaps Wild sent you some youngun's that were tc culls.

Even if it was to be culled and slipped through, it's a pretty little save :-)

I agree that it could possibly be Rainforest Sunrise. If you put it in a sunny spot, it will probably get more typical coloration and it will indeed get more corrugation as it ages if it is RS. This one should take full sun without burning, as long as you keep it well watered. Gilbert Wild was likely purchasing tcs from Shady Oaks, and they did sell RS.

It could grow up to be RS. Mine looked like that the first year.

Though not techinically speaking, this is the first good year they have had. They were half rotten when I got them, and they were tiny and then we had a dry winter. I lost most of those from Wild that winter. I didn't water them. I put ice cubes on them and that was not near enough.

Then last summer, we were under construction. They got plenty of watering, but not much else.

So, this one is merely a slip of a child. It has three fat little eyes. She survived all the mess.

This hosta is a winner.
