Need Help choosing a color to paint the front door...
Comments (20)Don't go to the Home Depot to buy an exterior red for you door. Just don't do it. A real paint store that sells Ben Moore or Pratt & Lambert are much better bets. Sherwin Williams would be okay too. But first you have to determine if you can paint your white door red. You have two issues: One, it's white, probably came from the manufacturer white. Not all white doors can be painted darker colors. You have to check your warranty and documents for the door. Usually the better quality and grade the door, the more options you have for color. The info for your door will specify a LRV, Light Reflectance Value. Paint an inexpensive white door a mid-tone to dark color and you will have issues because the door was never meant to deal with the energy accume. Darker colors absorb more wavelengths of light, wavelengths are energy, energy turns into heat. Or, more simply put a dark color will cook your door. If it's made to handle the heat, you're fine. Second issue is the storm door. It acts like a magnifying glass on a bug. Your door is the bug. Definitely consider the integrity of the door's structure as well as how intense/not intense the exposure to the sun is on the front of your house. North is the mildest, easiest on a home's elements. South and west can be wicked intense....See Morehelp I have many rooms I need to paint...need help choosing color
Comments (2)hermustangs, if you'll read the "new to GW" thread below on this page (or if it's left this page by the time you read this, search for it) you'll find explicit instructions on how to post photos; very easy to do. I think you'll get many more responses if you include photos. I'm not good enough with colors personally to try to answer your questions without seeing the rooms. Good luck!...See MoreNeed help choosing paint color for front door/pillar
Comments (16)I somehow stopped receiving notifications for the last few posted comments but thanks for the input! Here's an update on the colors I've chosen. So the door is an ivory color, trim color is consistent with the rest of the house. My question now is whether I should paint the immediate trim around the glass beside the front door (side lights..?) the same ivory color? The contrast between the trim and door color is a little more stark than I expected and wonder if this will help the eye transition better. If anyone has any pictures of what this should look like it would be greatly appreciated! By the way, it's not shown here but I've also painted the house number sign the same ivory color and the numbers match the trim color. I was hoping this would help with the contrast a little....See MoreNeed help choosing paint color for front door
Comments (6)What a pretty home! I think a white would look nice especially since its used in the trim, would work nice with the door handle they currently have too. If youre wanting to restain the wood I would try a stain that neutralizes the yellow....See Morecvgarcia14
