Comments (4)I don't know about the wicking problem, but normally, we'll set the cement board just above the flange and then fill the resultant gap with either thinset or caulking just so that the flange won't kick the bottom of the cement board out. As for the hex tile (and unless you have something I haven't seen yet, it may be porcelain, but I doubt very much it's rectified-- I've yet to see rectified mosaics. They'd cost a fortune!) it should only add about 3/16"- 1/4" (with thinset) to the floor to set it over the tile you have now....See MoreToilet Flange chipped-what to do
Comments (11)Update, I ordered a Plumbest 1/2 flange extender and it arrived Friday. I purchased a new toilet to install. ( Just in case something was wrong with the original) The tile floor turned out to be not level. I now know with the flange cracked and too low and the floor not level, there was no way for the wax and toilet to stay secure. All of this could have been repaired during the building of the house-UGH I installed the extender with #12 ss screws and caulked eveything and allowed the caulk to cure. I shimmed the toilet and have it secured in place and so far so good. I will install the tank tomorrow. I would not have known what to do without your replies to my post . Thanks again!...See Moretoilet flange above floor
Comments (9)Great question: "Does anyone know of a way to raise a toilet?" Better believe it, CukeDuke. I was a witness to the failed raising of a love-child. ItÂs a lot easier to raise a toilet, if only because they donÂt give you as much crap. OTOH, when the question becomes Nature vs. Nurture, Nature wins hands-down in this forum. Raising a toilet is hard, because they need to have a good, solid-education if you want them to go anywhere. (IÂm sure youÂve heard of potty-training.) I know we donÂt actually need to invite Albert Einstein into this discussion, but he did say something about relativity that we can employ. Einstein would agree that raising a toilet is equal to lowering the flange. But itÂs a little scary. I had an uncle who used to threaten: "IÂm going to lower the flange!" That scared the livin stuff out of everybody. So naturally, it never went anywhere from there. He died much too early. HeÂs been inturd ever since. Tomorrow, I want tell you about my dear aunt. But, first, letÂs see if I still have a log-in. Pinoke...See MoreHow do we fix outlets after we accidentally tiled over flanges?
Comments (9)Even if you could find a cover that doesn't need to screw in, the plug will be recessed too much to due to the tabs being behind the tile. All you need is a Dremel tool to notch out around the flanges. Then put spacers behind the flanges to bring the plugs out where they belong. You should be able to do this without damaging the tile if you use the right cutting tip and have a steady hand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXiS4yl3bYY...See Morecataan
