Painting Oak Cabinets....Need help picking a white/cream
Comments (5)Look for a thread that says "New To Kitchens? Posting Pics? Read Me!..." or, click here. I have no paint color advice--I used 'Adobe White', an off-white in the creamy range. Here's a link to pics of my soffit, painted the same color (satin finish), with trim painted in the same soft gloss as the cabinets: Here is a link that might be useful: Adobe white cabinets, soffit, trim...See MoreWhite kitchen cabinet paint and trim paint - need help
Comments (5)I'm painting my cabinets white right now, and had a hard time choosing the white. Funny how you can stand there staring at four white paint chips taped up to your cabinets and go nuts trying to decide which one looks best! I almost went with Simply White but ended up choosing White Dove. I went with Benjamin Moore Advance in satin. The people at the store recommended either Cabinet Coat or Advance for kitchen cabinets. I'm not familiar with SW Pro. But if you use BM paint, the satin might have enough of a shine for you. I started with satin thinking I might switch to semi-gloss, but the satin is really nice and has much more shine then I expected. I would use satin for the cabinets and semi-gloss or even gloss for the trim. But I like shiny trim! Good luck! I should actually be painting my cabinets right now!...See MoreNeed help with BM white paint for kitchen cabinets + need advice
Comments (14)@littlesmokie: Thanks for your thoughts and ideas and the link to the great blog! They were all helpful! Do I love the green accent? I like them, but I'm not sure if I love them.... @ :Having green in my kitchen was my sister's idea, and it took a little time to be okay with the thought until I saw the glass green tile. Still, I've had reservations. Do I wear green? Not so much. FYI, if it says anything, I have dark espresso hardwood floors; Coir color walls in living room; bathrooms with ivory travertine floors and walls and espresso shaker style cabinets and caesarstone countertops (Behr brand, I think; khaki/tan with a green tone); and pottery barn looking bedrooms for the kids and my husband and me. ~ Below are some better photos. You should be able to click on them now to enlarge them. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CZJqP94oax5I9afOlszJlA?feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/oR2_YYrhKhMhRbuRRCQ_9g?feat=directlink You can see the sage, beige and grayish tones. In the lower photo, you will see the a sample of the caesarstone jerusalem sand, the mini light green subway tile accent I was thinking about using (third one from the bottom) and the crisp white 3 x 6 subway tile sample (third from the bottom...originally, I was going to use barely beige). Do the clearer photos change your thoughts about our design which includes white cabinets and stainless steel appliances? Or, do you think I should go with the classic white look, maybe with all white subway tiles? I just want my kitchen to be beautiful, clean and crisp, yet with some warmth, and be worth the money spent. I've always dreamt of a white kitchen like this or even a more classic white cabinet kitchen (I'm sure you've all seen them or even have one like them): http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pCtYBqw7SEE/SSInWgWSbFI/AAAAAAAAAaA/RJjsK1XwD58/s1600-h/white+kitchen+old1.jpg If I decide to use white glazed subway tiles for the backsplash, what size of tiles should I use? Also, if going with the classic kitchen white theme, I've always liked the calcutta marble countertop look, but would prefer to use a granite or caesarstone. Have any ideas, or would something similar in color match with the floor tiles that I have? Any thoughts or ideas would appreciated! I need to figure all this out this week! With a busy schedule with 3 young kids and a hubby who wants the kitchen finished with the next couple of weeks, I'm pressed for time! Yikes! :) Hope you all had a great weekend!...See MoreNeed help ASAP with white for kitchen cabinets!
Comments (28)Ok, well then. I'm not a pro, just a decor enthusiast, and I'm not seeing your space in person so take my opinion with all the reserve it requires. :) I'm looking at your kitchen's colours on my monitor (which may or may not render the colours accurately) and basing my opinions and impressions on that. You need to trust YOUR eye and taste with these decisions. Seeing your kitchen pictures, I wouldn't fret over the granite's brown. The granite reads pretty black and is a horizontal surface that the eye doesn't necessarily see next to the cabinets at first glance. The horizontal surface the eye sees more with the cabinets is the floor and that is warm. I would make sure the cabinet colour and island's Chelsea Gray and floor harmonize. I would also strongly consider removing that 4 inch granite backsplash and mosaic backsplash and replacing it with something much simpler and brighter like a subway tile with matching grout. By itself, the new backsplash will freshen up the kitchen. If you paint your cabinets white and leave the dark backsplash, you might not get that modern Farmhouse look I think you're trying to achieve. I don't know where you live or how your BM store is staffed but my local ones have pretty experienced people who advise on colours. Have you talked to any of them about your plan? They should be able to find a warm white that harmonizes well with your floor (do you have a sample piece to bring?), Chelsea Gray and PM2. Perhaps White Dove fits the bill exactly. I've never used it nor do I have a test canvas of it. Also, you should have a couple of days at least to find the colour since you're getting these cabinets professionally done and it takes a couple of days at least to prep them for paint. Good luck! Keep us posted. I'm sure you'll find the right cabinet colour for your beautiful space....See MoreLavender Lass
