Are ants on hostas a problem?

With all of rain the ants are looking for dry anythings. They have moved up and made beds in some of my pots and I see a few strolling around on the leaves. I'm not sure what kind they are, very small but not fire ants. Actually a hair smaller than fire ants. I have put some ant killer on the beds in the pots but didn't want to overdo it, not knowing if the ant killer might be bad for the potted hosta. There aren't a lot and I don't think that they are doing any damage, but if not they're the only bug that isn't eating me alive this year. I have never seen a slug or snail on a hosta leaf before and am picking them off like berries this year. The rain is gone from the forecast for a while so maybe the critters will move along.
