Is it too late to plant lily bulbs in Calgary now?

It's May 27, 2015, today, and I was going to plant some lily bulbs in the flower beds around now. However, the Sunnyside Garden Centre lady told me that it's too late!!! Is it really? I thought that May to June would be a good time to do so here.... I have never planted lily bulbs here before so I would like your advice. Thank you!!!

They may not bloom this year is all but they may not bloom the color that they were sold as next year. I don't know what type does this or how, mom said that a bunch of hers are white the next year??? after having color the year before.

Asian lily and day Lilly grow like weeds. My wife put lots in and I removed them because the bettels they attract .they will grow no problem right now. You can plant them now no problem. The lady at the garden center is wrong. We have not even passed annual last frost date in calgary yet. My lilies are about 2" sticking out now. You can put lillies in anytime. They are invasive and super hardy but the bugs they attract can take a liking to other plants and are gross little mean red bettels.

It's the perfect time for planting daylilies although you may not see many blooms this year. It will depend on the individual daylily. I'm not sure about lilies. If you wanted instant color, I would probably plant the daylilies and lilies and fill in the spaces with annuals to get through this year.

I have a stargazer lily. I moved it to several locations and it never did much of anything, before I put it on the south side of my house. It loves it there, It may not flower for a year or 2 but it will flower. I'd post a picture of mine but I don't know how it's done on this site. There is no place to add attachments

Hi mac girl, It could very well bloom this summer since Stargazer is a late blooming oriental. It will probably depend more on the quality of the bulb (size and "juicyness"). The bloom time might be pushed a little farther back than usual, but since you don't have to worry about winter getting them you should be fine. -Helen

You can plant them any time if the ground is not frozen. However, long storing is not good for lily bulbs. They get dehydrated and weak.
