Seventeen inches should come about to your shoulder blades. Well they would mine anyway. That's not bad but for the fact that the lumbar pillows are 20 inches wide. The seat cushions are 22 inches wide. I tried pairing some up using Paint, but gave up when the pillow sizes were mostly smaller than the lumbar pillows. This is one reason I make my own. So much easier to buy the fabric, filler and just sew them in the sizes I need.

You can choose to keep the new couch where the current one is, allowing you to demarcate the room into 'seating zone' and 'game zone'. Alternatively, You can place the sofa on the TV wall to take the window seat in and create a larger seating configuration for when you have guests over. IMO, don't keep anything beyond the post near the half bath. Leave the thoroughfare intact. If this is the space for TV watching in your home, don't go for a projector and a screen. From the floor plan you have attached, taking loose seating and not a sectional makes the most sense.
