Plant IDs Please (friend or foe?)
Comments (12)I'm almost 100% certain #3 is Horseweed (Conyza canadensis). It's one of those weeds that changes shape and form as it ages. In other words it starts out looking very different than it ultimately will look like when it blooms. I was just Googling images for this one and found tons of 'em at all stages of development. I have it my garden. It's easy to pull, but it seems to be around every year no matter what I do. Kevin...See MoreID Please? Is this 'friend or foe'
Comments (6)OH, I was hoping for good news and this was a surprise "friend". The shovel will be out in the AM and it's getting dug out real quick and hubby will burn it for me. Don't want to just toss it somewhere or have it collected with the lawn refuse that is picked up by the trash men. Just in case though, I will keep my roundup posion ivy and brush spray handy. Only pesticide I ever use, but the poison ivy is not something I let go as too many family members have deadly severe reactions to it. Fran...See MoreFriend or foe - Plant ID anyone?
Comments (12)Karen, No, not Echinacea. Way too big for that in my gardens right now. Actually, the Echs are just starting to emerge. No fuzziness either in the leaves. Been trying to garden with gloves and since I've been gardening without for decades it's difficult. :O) Vera, No not Pensteman. The leaves are too dainty. Not thick enough. Carrie, I have Sundrops coming up in another section of the gardens and since our weather is still cool they are a deep puprple. This plant is also too fluffy with leaves to be a Sundrop. Dame's Rocket. Now that's a thought. I had it in another garden about 20 feet away, not sure if it's still there. In the other garden it grew among Phlox Paniculata. The soil was not as rich there, so the leaves were not that poofy and the plants not as robust. There doesn't appear to be any returning in that other garden and so it is difficult for me to even compare the leaf structure. Well, it's staying put for now. There is another close by, up against the foundation of the house. It's going to stay too. I'll keep you posted. Kind of hope it's Dame's Rocket - just for the smell of it!!...See MoreCan you name this-- friend or foe?
Comments (3)I don't think it is a geranium. Someone posted what I think is the same thing on the Name that Plant forum and it was suggested that it could be Virginia Waterleaf, Hydrophyllum virginianum. I'm not so sure that is it, but it certainly looks possible. I have seen this before (perhaps even in my own woods), but have never identified it. Here is a link that might be useful: The other thread on Name that Plant...See Morefloral_uk z.8/9 SW UK
