Granite for overhang? Edge finish?

Arizona Heat

Hi all, we're remodeling and cutting down the bar top to have our new granite countertops extend at counter height - planning an 8 or 9 inch overhang. All of our bids include 2 cm with laminated edges to 4 cm. Our old house had 3 cm granite with a half bullnose - no lamination. Would appreciate your comments on the following:

- I believe that a half bullnose is preferable as it won't wick water around to the cabinets. Personal preference is a 3 cm counter edge to a 4 cm - just too heavy for our smallish space.

- I've read that 3 cm is stronger for an overhang without supports - plus it will look better without the plywood base that can be visible if sitting down at the table in the adjoining dining area.

FINALLY - haven't been here in a while since Houzz got involved. Am I overlooking it, but I can't find the search function - which I always found useful in the old format?

TIA.
