Pug-in air fresheners/sent - improve smell?
Comments (2)Well, I have an insert myself, one that has been in for about 20 years, and it is just that an "insert", it just dumps into the fireplace's smoke chamber. This makes it less efficient that the now "code" type that has a true airtight installation with stainless steel pipe from the insert to the top of the chimney. I understand upgrading to that would solve my problem. I did try a chimney top damper (brand called Lock-Tip) which seals the chimney to (nearly) prevent air-flow up/down the chimney when it is not in use. This is a good thing just to save heat loss when heating with the central furnace. Crumpled newspaper, that's a new one on me. I had tried a large flat baking pan with baking soda and a flat pan with vinegar, didn't help enough to notice. I have, by the way, complete cleaned the insert, removing the fire bricks and vacuuming, and I had the chimney/fireplace professionally cleaned. I think these steps may result in an improvement, but figured using an "air freshener" might help in the meantime. I did try an electronic air filter, didn't notice any improvement. Comments (14)I have to agree with all those saying please stop polluting your home and lungs with all those chemicals! Just reading what you describe made me have difficulty breathing. You can't smell these products after 2 days, but they definitely still smell - you're just getting used to them! Fresh air is best, and if you have an odor problem you may need an air cleaner with a charcoal filter to actually remove odors from the air. Air textile items in the sun when you can. If you have carpets get them professionally cleaned....See MorePlease recommend a plug in air fresh that lasts a long time
Comments (52)I love fragrance, but I do understand there can be too much of a good thing. I use the wax melters. I've tried tarts/melts you buy at the store, ones sold online from large companies, and ones sold by independent vendors. I've been given Scentsy, but refuse to buy it. Sorry, I'm not supporting any businesses set up that way. With all brands or vendors, I've found ones that worked and ones that didn't. At work, we take turns in our suite burning. We all have our own offices, and never use one in reception, so the fragrance stays concentrated in one location mostly, with just a hint in the hallway. We get lots of compliments. At home, I have a few burners, but only have one always in use. It's on a timer. It comes on about an hour before I get up and stays on around 2 hours. In the afternoon, it comes on about an hour before we get home and runs around 2 hours as well. This way I wake up to a nice fragrance and come home to one. At the same time, the pets get a break, I don't go nose blind, and I can get several uses out of one melt....See MoreBest air freshener for bathroom
Comments (5)+1 on the fan. If it's not clearing the room quickly enough, it's also not clearing the room of humidity generated by showers, sinks, etc. And, IMHO, when it comes to air fresheners, too many people are of the persuasion that if "some is good, more is better, and too much is enough"....See Moregraywings123
