I need help figuring out my ceiling...

Hi there! Our kitchen ceiling was removed just a couple of weeks ago and we opened a can of worms at the same time… Bad wiring, bad plumbing…. We fixed the plumbing and for the wiring we had the choice of rewiring the whole house or have a lot of junction boxes in the ceiling. Our electrician suggested that we install access panels or many coffered ceiling that would still give access to the boxes when needed.

I need help figuring out the best way to have a pretty but accessible ceiling in my kitchen. Do you have any ideas?

Pick the rewiring or put in a dropped ceiling. I'd pick the rewiring. Older houses need that anyway so it's not a waste of money.

Were they able to give you a quote for rewiring the house? We did that in our current house before we moved in, plaster walls-fun times, and have enjoyed peace of mind about what could have been lurking ;)

Maybe the rest of the house is just fine, but it might not be a bad idea to do a little more exploring before you make a final decision.

Figuring out the square footage of the home is just one step in properly sizing a system. Remember insulation, windows, etc. I recommend a full load calculation on the house.

If you use lisa_a's with 2 entrances to the pantry it may just vent itself easily as I'd imagine the pocket entry door to it from the garage may stay open or ajar frequently. You could possibly fit it in the bump back to match the entrance stairs. Fridges in garages are pretty common around here but we have more issues with freezing temps than overly hot. Otherwise I'd put it in that spot in the garage where the writing says small appliances for inside the kitchen. That's not far of a walk at all.

Thank you... and no I didn't repot it. Tried taking pics in a shadier spot but my camera wasn't picking up on the dark colors on the leaves as good. I did notice after posting this that if I look at the bottom of the leaves that the veins are dark also. I have only had it about 2.5 weeks so it's still pretty new to me. I know that before I purchased it they had just given it some plant food, mirical grow for vegetables I believe, and I had completely forgot about picking some up, I've never used it before, so I was wondering if that could be part of the problem. It was used to getting some sort of plant food once a week from what they said and then after it came home to live on my deck it hasn't had any, but I get paid tomorrow so I'll be picking some up then. Any suggestions on what would be the best kind to get?

We might have to do the latter and rewire. I still need to get a quote and hope that it won't break the bank. I'll keep you posted!

Hi there! Just wanted to say thank you! We compromised having only one box that will be accessible and everything else got rewired. We passed inspection and now have to deal with an impossible duct work for the vent hood. We'll get through it all.
