Help me find out what this is and how to get rid of it!!
Comments (1)Looks like Dove Weed or Smooth Crab Grass. Does not really matter what it is as the control for all broad leaf grassy weeds are the exact same. Best control is is get control before it emerges using pre-emergence herbicides. Too late for you. For post emergence use any type for broad leaf control and safe for you lawn type. MAMA was excellent but the Employment Prevention Agency decide you should not use it. Today try a product containing quinclorac aka Weed-B-Gone Max + Crab Grass Control available at any box store. It also contains 2,4-D, MCPP and dicamba, which will control just about every weed there is. Comments (32)Sailfish, No, you don't need to be worried. What happens is that, during heating, the oil changes, and the molecules in it start linking together into long chains. These polymerized oils seem tacky, but generally they're pretty nonstick. Another way of getting rid of them is to simply bake the pan at relatively high heat. Oils are made up of hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon atoms. IIRC, when you start to heat them, you start driving off hydrogen and oxygen atoms, leaving free bonding points on the molecules, which then start clumping together. If you continue to bake an oil at moderate heat (350 to 375), you'll finally drive off all of the hydrogen and oxygen atoms, leaving a fine layer of carbon atoms behind. That is the process by which you "season" a cast iron frying pan to achieve a very durable non stick surface. That layer of carbon atoms is your friend....See MoreWhat weed is this how to get rid of it
Comments (6)I have no knowledge of this plant at all but let me just add that there is no weed killer/herbicide that can distinguish between a desirable plant you want to keep or one you want to be rid of!! They're just not that smart and don't work that way :-)) Manual removal is your best option. The alternative is to selectively treat this weed individual plant by individual plant but you still run the risk of damaging wanted plants in the immediate area. In that dense a planting, it's almost impossible to avoid. If you are physically unable to address the problem personally, perhaps you could hire someone to clean out the area for you? Even an unexperienced kid could do the job with proper supervision....See MoreCan anyone tell me what these are and how to get rid of them?
Comments (3)Please do not use dish soap as an insecticide for any plant. Detergents Dishsoap/ detergent’s effect on plants varies with the mode of exposure. Dawn, Palmolive, Joy, ...... dishsoap, as examples, are each and all a mishmash of chemicals, at least eleven of which are phytotoxic. If the top of the plant is sprayed thoroughly with even mild detergent solutions such that all surfaces including leaves are covered, the detergent can easily dissolve the protective coating of cuticular wax on the leaves of the plant, causing abnormally high rates of water loss and possible necrosis of all or part of the leaf. Cuticular waxes prevent leaves from drying out, and help stop pathogens from attacking the leaf. Strong solutions will even dissolve cell membranes, causing death of the cells. If a detergent solution is used as a soil drench or makes its way into the soil as a consequence of over-spray or run-off, the effect on roots is immediate. Because one of the main function of roots is to absorb water and nutrients dissolved in water, they lack the waxy protective coating that leaves employ. Detergent solution in contact with root cells can quickly dissolve the lipid membrane surrounding cells, killing the cells and inhibiting water/ nutrient uptake. Hair cells growing as appendages off larger roots do the lion’s share of assimilating water and nutrients, and these very delicate cells would be the first casualty of any detergent in the root zone. There are widely available insecticidal soaps, designed to be used topically and made mixing potassium with only long chain fatty acids, carefully selected and specifically formulated to be safe for mammals & birds, death on most insects they contact, and most important, safe for plants. If you need something "soapy", it would be much better if you selected a product intended for use on plants than one intended for other purposes. Al...See MoreOkiedawn OK Zone 7
