Comments (14)I've only ever used SW Harmony when painting myself (for a newly finished basement a few years ago--primer and 2 coats of paint during middle of winter and the lack of smell was great!). Not having had previous painting experience before, I don't have anything to compare it against, but I thought Harmony was easy to work with and looked great (after getting great painting technique tips here and the hgtv forum). Now I have a question....I think I used a satin in the Harmony line. Is Duration Matte less shiny than that? In our new house, the bldr painted everything flat, and I already have places that need wiping/cleaning, but I can't. I need to start re-painting some rooms, and also need a low sheen because I don't think the drywallers did a very good job in sanding the seams in a couple of rooms. Thanks!...See Morec2 paint matches in Sherwin Williams paint
Comments (10)Professionally finished cabinets are done in an opaque conversion varnish. Calling that “paint” is like calling your kids go kart an Indy car. Yeah, the’re both open wheel vehicles. No further similarities exist. If this guy doesn’t finish his products in house, with a conversion varnish, you don’t need to use him. Period. Your contractor is a hack by extension of even recommending this route. Professionally Finishing cabinets is 40-60% of the total cost of the cabinets. In other words, what you paid for the cabinets, get ready to write that same check to a pro finisher. Properly Finishing is just as much work as making them. Or more, if you want paint and glaze. Average for a standard 12x12 kitchen, redo, is 7-9K. Bigger kitchens are more. Taller cabinets are more. More details are more. Glazed are more. Islands are always more. Custom colors are more. And that’s with the doors done off site in a clean room, as they should be. All brand new cabinets should be coated in a clean room with a conversion varnish, by the maker, or his specialty finisher. See why I say he is a hack woodworker? A true custom cabinet maker controls the entire process, from lumber purchase through the installation in your home. He doesn’t allow some hack housepainter with a spray gun to ruin all his hard work....See MoreSherwin Williams Alabaster paint looks very yellow-green
Comments (38)@MarylandHomebody that's true about the shirt, but we painted our kitchen Simply White and it looked green. We were painting over the previous owners dark green so of course at first we thought it was that. So we primed and painted again and still green. I hated it. Eventually we went with Opaline the same color we'd painted in the living and dining room. It's the palest blue/green/grey color. I love it and it completely got rid of the ugly shade of green we were seeing that I eventually figured out was a result of our green evergreens outside. I wouldn't have wanted to live with that ugly pea/yellow green and am so glad we repainted and didn't just take somebody else's opinion that it looks good when I knew inside it did not look good to us as that's ultimately what matters....See Morenew house has all high reflective white sherwin Williams it’s too whit
Comments (3)I'd try to leave the trim/doors /cabinets if its a nice paint job. what you could do is bring color to work w high reflective white...a color for walls or accent wall in a primary spot/ some textiles w color/ even if throw pillow..do you need any curtain panels? accesorize around your table area w color. This white cooperates if you can think of color palette and then maybe some black hardware/ door knobs/ light fixture w black detail. this all can be very striking and wonderful. maybe a designer to help w spaces....See MoreMichael
