That is so cute Kylie! What a wonderful treat for all of us to see that. Guess they build where ever they can. My mom had my brother cut a branch from a tall shrub that had grown towards the porch and front door -- highly trafficked. After my brother cut the branch, mom found a hummingbird nest with eggs. She felt so bad and they tried taping the branch back on, but I forgot to ask if the mama ever came back.

Oh what a treasure! Of all the years I've been watching these flying jewels, I have never come across a nest. You must get a camera from someone as I'd love to see it! Enjoy.

We get carpenter bees as well. Loads of them. But I never saw them going after the hummers. I have my feeders under my back patio and the carpenter bees are usually in that same area. Hummers can be pretty aggressive so I wouldn't worry about it. When I spot the carpenters nest I spray right into the holes and then immediately plug it up. Also, keeping regular bird feeders full attracts other birds that like to feed on the carpenter bees. They don't get all of them but I've seen quite a few dead on my walk way. They also kill their mate once they've mated so that could be why I see the dead ones on the walk.

The bullie is a Violet-crowned Hummingbird (Amazilia violiceps). The sexes look identical.I had them at Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. Pedro there's also a lrg copper hummer on the coast. Don't have a picture. ALberto1444
