A Crown Moulding, Caulking and Paint Question
Comments (2)I caulked, touched up ceiling not worrying about a bit on moulding then painting moulding, then wall touchup. "Work down so paint drips are taken care of in next step" was concept for this. By the way, there is a paint I use now for all trim, mouldings, doors etc that I cannot stop raving about (CIL SMART3 WASH & WEAR Kitchen & Bath - Ultra White). It doesnt yellow, washes easy, goes on easy, dries fast and is relatively cheap. Will never use oil-based again after this. One note, use Zinsser bullseye if going from oil to CIL)....See MoreCrown Molding - Caulk issue
Comments (3)You can back it with chewing gum if you want. Personally I would take the crown down and fix the ceiling or work with it. Without doing that you will end up with straight crown that shows the ceiling is off. Your other option, working with it, which is done in old homes, put the crown up according to the angles that natural settling of the home caused. It wont look odd and unless someone measures, they will never notice. A quarter inch caulk line will always stick out....See MoreCaulking gaps, favorite paintable caulk
Comments (4)"What do you do when you're working with stained wood instead of painted wood? It's not like you can stain the caulk???" One of the reasons stained woodwork costs more is the material is better than 'paint grade' and it takes more labor to install without gaps, nail heads showing(they need to be filled with matching putty), and joints not closing perfectly. The basic answer is no gaps. For minor gaps ypu can mix tinted hardwood floor filler and use it to fill minor defects. You can also purchase Mohawk filler sticks (tinted wax). They have enough colors you can usually get a decent match....See MoreGaps between Crown Molding and Cabinet
Comments (19)The only type of cabinet that won't show lines/gaps are traditional partial overlay doors. Inset doors will show a space between the door and the frame, but frameless doors will also have small spaces between the doors and the moldings, and also between the doors themselves. There's no way to avoid this because you need clearance for the doors to open. AND the spaces will not be even either. You just need to accept it and forget it!...See MoreSarah Jorgensen
