Would a wood hood look okay over a 30 inch gas range?

Looking for a good 30inch freestanding gas range around $2000.
Comments (7)The Costco Bluestar has four burners, three of which are 15000 BTU and the last one is a 9000 BTU simmer burner. The oven does have a convection fan. There is a broiler element in the top of the oven, but I have yet to try it. And there is no warming drawer. Where our previus range had a warming draw, the Bluestar has a fixed toe-panel. The oven burner is located under the oven, where a warming drawer would otherwise be located. Another thing: the grates are cast iron, but are not really "full-motion" because the 5 inch wide space between the left burners and the right burners is occupied by a stainless-steel spacer. You can buy cast iron filler grates for about $250 direct from Bluestar, but I'm in saving mode right now. Our Costco has these ranges on the floor ready to go, but they are not available on-line at Costco.ca I agree completely with you about unneccesary electronics and other "features"! The only controls on my range are four knobs for the burners, one knob for the oven, a switch for the oven light and a switch for the convection fan....See More30-inch gas range
Comments (3)Most modern gas ranges do not have standing pilots anymore. They will have a plug to supply an ignitor system that uses a spark to light the gas, and relight it if it goes out- , The stove top can still be lit with a match or lighter if there's no electricity during a power outage. Most modern gas ranges are still very simple and have no other electronics- no timers, no led windows etc. And only a very few have self-clean. Still if you want pilots, another popular 'vintage' gas stove is Wedgewood....See More42' range hood over 30' range???
Comments (7)The crux here is that you believe that all 36" ranges cost $5000. As Clooney mentioned, I just checked on AJ Madison and there are several 36" gas ranges for well under that, for example a beautiful Bertazzoni for $3000. Also, there are some people on the Appliances Forum who love their NXR ranges, also $3000. I am assuming you are looking at an all-gas range. If you are looking at Dual Fuel, you will pay up for that. But IMHO, a dual fuel upcharge is not worth it. There are more electronics to break, and the idea that a gas oven is not as good as an electric oven is outmoded. I would not, if I were you, trade down from a 36" range to a 30" range. Also, since you said there are built-in cabinets above the range, what about the cabinets on either side of the range? Are those base cabinets staying, so that you are going to have to add something to fill in the 6" if you go from 36" range to 30" range?...See More48" range hood over 30" range
Comments (52)"We have 9 foot ceilings, so they didn’t take them to the ceiling because they said it would make them tall and skinny..." Really? I call BS. Here are my cabinets to the ceiling with 9 foot ceilings. I am beyond happy that my cabs go to the ceiling, eliminating the need to dust above them. My kitchen looks larger and brighter without the dark shadows above the cabs, too. My cabs are custom so we were able to spec 46" uppers with 8" crown but you can go with 42" tall uppers and 12" crown. I asked but you didn't answer: is there a reason why you haven't considered moving the fridge to the sink wall? That would give you wider aisles and a larger island, plus more room around your range and a better meal prep flow of fridge to sink to counter to range. I mocked up how that might look. You can use your existing fridge (that saves $$) and pull the base cabs out to create 30" deep counters, which will make your full size fridge look like a counter depth model. I decreased the depth of the cabs on the opposite side of the kitchen to 12" deep for a full run of pantry cabs. You may be able to eliminate more uppers in your kitchen with the additional storage the pantry cabs provide, which means that you could make the window over the sink even wider. Here's how that might look in your kitchen. I didn't draw it up this way but your one window would become either 2 slider windows or 2 single hung windows or, as they did in the above kitchen, 3 single hung windows. I shifted the island away from the sink counter, giving you 45" aisle between counters (42" between fridge door and counter) and 42" aisles between pantry cabs and island (assuming that your kitchen is 13'/156" wide). That also gives you more room around your range so a wider range and hood would look more in scale. That said, I agree with others: an oversized hood isn't the right fit for your kitchen. I also think it's an odd choice to spend so much $$$ on a very detailed, oversized hood over a 30" range. I think it will look like you ran out of money half way through the remodel so all you could afford was a 30" range, not the 36" pro style range you had intended to get. And definitely spend the money to upgrade to drawer bases. That's a splurge that you will never regret. Ever....See Moreamck2
