Comments (11)Interesting I see there are 4 heat zones in my state. Im in heat zone 1, I don't have to go far for that to change. I can see how it can make a big difference Thank you for the link Seysonn its something Ill use for future reference. Ive been growing hots for 25 years always in the same aria . Surrounded by water keeps me 10 degrees cooler then just 10 miles up the road. Good place to get a most excellent fruit set. Ive seen it 100 in Phily . and stay in the high 80s here, Very useful information...See MoreHeat Zones and USDA Zones?
Comments (3)Im a heat zone 6 out of 12 (kind of borderline of a heat zone 5 thanks to the ocean's influence), and Im a USDA zone 7. I never use my heat zone because it seems like most people arent familiar with it. I think that heat zones would help a lot when comparing areas with similar USDA zones to determine how well plants will grow (A coastal USDA zone 10 in Southern California might have a heat zone of a 5 whereas a coastal USDA zone 10 in Southern Florida might have a heat zone of a 10 or 11). The USDA zones are the same, but the heat zones show a different story. I guess its not perfect though because Phoenix is a USDA zone 9b (probably 10a most years) with a heat zone of 11 which is the same as Plant City, Florida (which is also a zone 9b/10a) have very different climates. The difference between the 2 cities is great though even though they have the same USDA zone and Heat zone. 100F temperatures that far south in Florida is almost unheard of, whereas temperatures in the 110's isnt too unusual during the hottest time of the year in Phoenix. -Alex...See MoreHow do I add a zone to my user name?
Comments (6)Go to 1) Your Houzz in the upper right corner of your screen 2) edit your profile in the upper right 3a) under Profile Information I have for my First name (publicly displayed): NHBabs 3b) under Profile Information I have for my Last name (publicly displayed): z4b-5a NH Kind of silly to have to do that, but I guess if this forum's main thrust in the past has been the inside of one's home, the zone didn't matter. I hope that they add this option to the publicly visible information requested when one registers since otherwise we will have to prompt about always having one's zone and location information visible to all newbies....See Moremichaelg
