My latest project........
Comments (18)Thanks again folks, for all your comments. Marylu.....down here, we do not have a problem of our ground freezing, therefore, I just dug out all the grass, tilled the ground and lowered it to the level I wanted, then laid the brick, swept in the mortar mix, wet it down, and Waa Laa....my path. Of course the edging was down with wet mortar mix. :) Here's the latest addition to my walkway. The lower path in the pictures above leads to a parking pad where my DH parks his RV when he brings it home. The ground slopes here, so I leveled the areas, and stepped the path down rather than have it slope. Jan...See MoreMy latest projects
Comments (7)In cold zones, the easiest way to have happy healthy Dwarf Alberta Spruce is to plant them in a location out of the winter and early spring sun ... such as on the north side of a building or structure. I have the very attractive selection named 'Sander's Blue', though it always burnt badly in March and looked so crappy that I had shovel pruned it. I got another one at a good price at Canadian Tire and put the thing near to the north foundation where it's now been very happy and looking darn good. I always water it well prior to winter and only safeguard it from the neighbor's dogs peeing on it....See MorePics of my latest project
Comments (28)Thanks so much for the kind words! It's nice to get nice comments from people outside of my family (who are obligated to say nice things). I'll try to post photos from our better camera later. On top of the hill is a red barn and silo. On the hill are some hay bales. I knew that I wanted to do a farm landscape bc that's the landscape in our area. The sky was the trickiest part, in terms of getitng it to look somewhat realistic; so, I watched a couple fo YouTube videos of "how to paint a sky." I actually re-painted the sky a couple of times to make it look right. Who knew that something that simple looking would be so challenging to paint? Before I tackled the huge painting I did a tiny (8x10) loose mock up, just to make sure that I wouldn't waste my time doing a huge version if the small one looked like hell. The small one looked ok; so, then I did the big one. It was definitely more challenging doing it on a huge scale bc when you blow things up, the lack of detail in the painting is more obvious. Anyway, the whole thing was a learning process bc as I painted and made mistakes, I figured out what didn't work and what worked better. I definitely had moments of frustration while painting it bc things just didn't look right, but I think I eventually fixed them to a point where it looked better. I found myself saying to myself several times during the process, "Why do I think that I can do this?!?" At the end of it though, I am really pleased with how it turned out. Anyway, if you are contemplating anything that seems kind of daunting, I have found that in general, if you break it up into little manageable parts, you can usually accomplish it to a passable degree. The worst that could happen is that the project fails, but in the grand scheme of life, that's not so bad. And on the flip side, you might suprise yourself!...See MoreVacation home decor with Saltillo Tile
Comments (5)An old friend of mine had a Florida house with tile floors like these, and made it simple and stylish with soft clear white walls, palest possible sky blue ceilings, bamboo roller blinds with white muslin curtains with a 24" border of faded warm khaki at the bottom, sisal rugs, natural cane chairs, painted tables of various kinds (tag sales, certainly), ivory twill (or was it sail canvas?) slipcovered upholstery, and lots of pillows made out of Indian print cotton bedspreads. There was some sort of fabulous trunk thing as the coffee table, and a big heavy picnic table for the dining room. Don't remember the chairs. I think the bedrooms had different colored borders on the curtains - she made them all herself, and I seem to remember pale seafoam green and icy blue as well, but I'm sure about the warm khaki in the living and dining areas of the open plan. Don't remember what was on the walls, but I have a memory of just a few very large very pale things, and some mirrors....See Morebookjunky4life
