(Cross-posted in other Miele Steam Oven threads) We bought a Miele DGC 6800 Combination Steam Oven (non-plumbed) and a few months later on a whim descaled the unit. Right after the descaling process, my Miele steam oven gives me a 'Fault 20' whenever I try to do steam cooking. The regular convection cooking works fine. Wish I had something else! It's out of warranty even though we probably used it about 20 times. Now Miele is asking for $150 for a technician to come out and pay an additional $90/hr for labor + $ for parts!

I am also interested in knowing how well the new Miele 30 inch ovens work? here is a lot of discussion about features but less about performance? Does it bake evenly? Single rack? Multiple rack? Broil well? How well does the wireless temp probe work? Other than the probe and price, how does the selectronic and m touch interfaces compare? Is the selectronic less convenient to use?

We have a drain pan under our CSO, and I bought the extended warranty. It's just a belts-and-suspenders type of thing. But I am really not too worried about the plumbed version. Yes, things can always go wrong with any appliance. But I have not seen any pattern of the plumbed model being reported as more error prone (and yes, both models can have problems; that's why you make sure to precisely follow installation instructions and why you have warranty). This forum definitely does bring out the complaints; if something can go wrong, you'll read about it here. So, if the plumbed version had a lot more problems than the non-plumbed version, I think we'd know. It's possible that the plumbed version has a unique failure mode. But unless I read specific reports of it, I'd for now chalk it up as paranoia and hear say.

I was about to purchase a 48 inch gas range but last minute realized I do not want to clean that beast, opted for a 36" electric cook top/intentionally non-induction. You do realize an electric cooktop is actually harder to clean than a gas cooktop? Also regarding EMF's I'm assuming you also do the following to avoid EMF's? Turn off wifi at night, use radiation cancelling cases and headsets for cellphones, use EMF shields for PCs and notebooks, and avoiding dirty electricity in your home by never using dimmer switches. I hope you also use battery power for your electronics as much as possible as higher EMF exposure occurs when you use a laptop while it is plugged in. And I assume you don't have a microwave too? However if you're interested in real science on the issue, might I suggest reading THIS ARTICLE Personally, I'll take my induction cooktop over electric any day and in reality, you're not spending hours a day in front of cooktop. This is simply not enough power to create EMFs that can damage the human body. And even if it were enough power to be harmful, turning off the offending appliance--or simply stepping a few feet away from it--solves the problem. (Why does this solve the problem? And no conclusive evidence has yet been found that links non-ionizing radiation and cancer. Just to give some perspective, here are some other substances on the class 2b list: coffee, pickled vegetables, and aloe vera gel. Coffee has been on the list since the early 1970s and has repeatedly been proven to not be a carcinogen (in fact, it seems to actually reduce the rate of some cancers). Yet there it remains--once again, because you can't prove a negative."
