Duh (smacking head against wall for not thinking to do this)! Here goes: both spots are within a couple of feet from each other.

The second clearly looks like a brush stroke. There are a few other spots in the house but these are raised a bit and would need sanding down. I hear that sanding VOG isn't a good idea even when applying primer. I suppose I should be grateful the owner wasn't a smoker.

Interesting. I was thinking glue from your first description, thinking it was where the trim was, but that is an odd place. Was there a water leak in that area at any time? Sorry I can't be more helpful. On the smell, I once moved into a place like that, but the prev owner had a dog, and when I had the carpets pulled up, the rug pad was saturated with urine. I felt so bad for the carpet guys.

Will you be replacing the corners? I'm in the process of painting my MH also, and pulled off the corner and don't know if I should replace it or not. There is only one outside corner, in the kitchen, and it was damaged.

Forgot to add: no, this can't be a water leak; it's not spreading or. Did have a water leak in two other places and they were obviously mildewy against the white of the plaster ceiling.

Sue Daigle I've found a few spots like that in my house. I believe they were near the ceiling, too. Sort of had the texture of dried Great Stuff. I think I just wiped it with a damp cloth, maybe a little scrubbing. Don't remember sanding. Good for you doing your own deck. What did you sand with? Mine needs help. Aren't you tempted to try one of those corners yourself? I would be, but that's just me. lol I realize you already have a plan.

Annie N I found a wooden outside corner piece (at Home Depot, the ones at Lowe's weren't long enough, I needed almost 9') to replace a very roughly done corner. Later, at Lowe's I found vinyl? outside corner pieces you can paint.or not. And they come in longer lengths. I used those overhead on the marriage wall. Both look so much better, they'd pieced it together with prefinished brown trim and there was sooo many staples. I'll try to add a couple pics.

Sorry, i didn't realize this one is a little blurry. I just finished this overhead Friday, still have a little caulking to do. Just to clarify, the overhead I used the vinyl pieces, the corner piece on the wall is wood. You can't tell the difference once painted.

Maybe a little too much action in the immediate future! I needed different lengths, some up to 10' and each side had different slopes since I have cathedral ceilings which I would gladly trade with anyone. I didn't trust myself to put up the wooden corners and a carpenter could do it much quicker; not a hard job but I felt it needed an experienced hand.

Abbisgram, I'll try with the stuff again today. Took out the dry wall anchors Saturday. A couple just popped out of the wall; good thing they only held towels. I am definitely gonna splurge on nicer replacements. Anything is better than those wooden things.

Abbisgram, your corner looks great! Do you have straight walls up to a point and a cathedral ceiling above because the look is very nice. All but one of my top corner lattice pieces was cut wrong so that's not bad at all. And while I was removing the old pieces I noticed some went to the base board and some right down to the floor; odd I didn't notice it before but after removing them I know that's the first thing I'd see.

I have a very small front deck, maybe 10x10' so I used my little orbital sander on what I could reach and a sanding block when I couldn't. Curse the Thompson Water Sealer folks! Put it on my first year and it didn't last until the next (did all the prep for it). So now I just paint, same colors and hit the bad spots where necessary. My dream is to replace the railing with those vinyl sections. If there were a safety problem I'd call in an expert. Best advice: if it's something that needs special skills call an expert. Saves money in the long run.

Sue, I have cathedral ceilings in kitchen,living, dining and master. Other rooms have flat ceilings. The marriage wall section you see drops down about a foot just in that area. Most homes I've seen are somewhat flat where they're joined together. What does yours look like?

As for the deck, mine is larger and partially roofed over. I guess about 3 years ago, I used Olympic solid color stain. The areas that are exposed to the weather hasn't held up at all. It started chipping up after the first winter. The covered section still looks good. My son pressure washed it for me 2 weeks ago. Because I waited so long to do anything to it other than cleaning, the wood is weathered and I'm wondering if sanding would even help.

My cathedral ceiling comes to a point running down the length of the house with faux wood trim. Nothing special; would love to have all white trim but can't afford it.

Abbisgram, that was the situation I was in. The only solution that I could see was to completely sand it down. The problem with Thompson's was while some areas looked good lots of others didn't. And the good areas wouldn't take in stain so the wood looked streaked. Also, very unfortunately, I had used a colored version. Sanded; the next time, the color came back so I sanded even more and primed this time which I should have done in the first place before painting. I wonder what the wood looks like under the weathered parts? Try sanding? I'm not experienced in this (obviously). Can you replace only the weathered boards?
