I have no idea how much of this stuff I'm going to need so I ordered 4 bricks. I guess if I need more I'll order it later. . . So. . . no soil at all Denise? I was thinking you used the coir instead of bark like me and so many others do. I would guess with no soil one would have to use some sort of nutrient such as VF-11, just b/c the lack of them in the soil. So, on the average, how often do you water using this type of growing medium. I realize the time of year has a lot to do with the frequency of water, as well as the type of hoya. So, say the average hoya such as pubicalyx, since they seem to grow year round, for me anyway. Speaking of this. . . kinda. . . I got a magazine a few weeks ago that had 4", 6", and 8" white plastic hanging pots that were only .78 cents if you bought 10 or more and shipping was only $5.00. I was going to order 40 of them so I had them when I switched all my hoyas over to coir. Well, we had a superbowl party and I accidently used the magazine to start the firepit. . . I'm so mad. . . And I can't remember the name of the company. . . rrrrrrrg. Anyway, thanks again everyone. . . I'm sure I'll have more questions once the coir get here. Miad~

AEC, Mine is a Four Season's room - they no longer have an office in Omaha, but they may still be around in other parts of the country. I got a few quotes and many of those that tout building sunrooms tried to talk me out of floor to ceiling glass, and some wouldn't even consider doing roof glass. The roof glass, I'm sure, is tempered. We get hail storms around here every year, and I have yet to have any crack or break. But here is one very good suggestion - the Four Season's folks tried to talk me into a coating on the glass that would cut down on the hot rays of the sun. I refused that on the side glass (I was afraid it would also cut down on the flower making rays...), but took it on the roof glass. I think that was a good move because when the sun is at its hottest overhead, the greenhouse doesn't get much hotter than the outside temp. Other people I know who have greenhouses complain that the temp in the GH can be 125 on a sunny day! YUCK! Bad for me, bad for plants! Now some of that is probably also that mine is on the east side of the house. If it was the west, it would probably heat up more in there in the afternoons/evenings. I don't cool the room, of course, so it's not very conducive to hanging out in this time of year, but the plants love the heat and humidity, so they're very happy. In fall and spring, just leaving the slider open and opening/shutting windows accordingly keeps the room comfy. However, one suggestion I would make is to get windows that have the easy-slide ball bearings in them. Lots of "crud" gets in the tracks (between having the windows open a lot in summer and dirt falling and blowing out of pots) and the kind I have are HARD to open and close, so I have to move my shelves to open and close them... When it gets cold, I have a radiant heater I use, and when it gets REALLY cold, I sometimes have to supplement with a 2nd heater. If you can put a heat run in there, that would be ideal, but because our house is stucco, that wasn't really practical. At some point, I'd like to put permenant three phase radiant heat in there because it's cheaper to run. It is quite expensive to heat it in winter, and it would be cheaper to use some kind of gas heat, but I don't like the fact that gas heat will create a very dry environment - not good for the plants... Though I'm sure some people would be driven crazy by how messy a GH can get, and having it attached to your living space wouldn't even be conceivable for many. But I love the fact that I can get up in the middle of the night and step out there to make sure the heaters haven't gone out in the winter. Seems like everyone I know who has a GH has had a heater go down and not known it until they've lost a bunch of plants. Oh, and my kitties love going out there to sun themselves - even on these hottest of days! Denise in Omaha

She'll readily share the fruits of her experience, and has a real gift for noticing significant details in plant behavior. I'd be lost without her help regarding Dischidia. You really couldn't ask to do a trade with someone more unselfish. I really lucked out moving to her turf. ^_^/

Oh I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous! I would love to be headed up north for some leaf peeping! Anyway, yes get some Lust Bars at the trading Post - my tastebuds are tingling at the memory LOL! I would definitely make a stop at Stonewall Kitchens too - they have a nice little cafe and there is lots of stuff open on the counters around the store for tasting. I picked up a jar of the Roasted Vegetable Bruschetta Spread and I wish I had gotten a couple, it is awesome! If you go up as far as Kennebunkport, I would make a stop at Federal Jacks. The Brewmaster (and the whole staff) is quite well versed in explaining a lot of the beers they make on site and you can see the brewery as you walk in to the restaurant. The food was great too and it is right on the harbor so the view is lovely. There is also the Red Hook Brewery in Portsmouth and they have tours also. The food was awesome when we were there a month ago - the only drawback is not much of a "view". It is on the old Pease AFB property. In Ogunquit there are a couple of worthwhile destination restaurants - Arrows and The Tavern at Clay Hill Farm. Both are pricey, but the food is awesome. They both have web sites with menus, so you can google them if you are interested. Of course there is Flo's in Cape Neddick - hit the one on Rt 1 instead of the one in the Trading Post parking lot. Order your dogs with Flo Sauce and mayo - they are insane. If I think of others I will post them. Have a great time and take lots of pics :-) Alexa
