4 ton or 5? Being told different things
Comments (3)The contractor do a Manual J calculation or he is using a rule of thumb? Are the ducts in the attic? If yes, then install an attic pull down stairway and inspect the duct work. Who knows what you find up there. You should be able to cool the house with a 4 ton unit if it installed and maintained properly. While you are in the attic inspect the insulation. Perhaps adding insulation to bring you up to R-38 could be all that is required to make a 4 ton unit work well....See MoreOy vey MIL to give away (Vent, big vent)
Comments (46)Stacie, you posted about the sippy cup episode on the Cooking forum back in November, so your MIL's recent behavior shouldn't come as a shocking new development. It's unfortunate you lost so many precious things, but I'm glad to see you recovered the social security cards. You and your husband know the issue, so you either figure out how to control it, or you adopt preventative measures to live with it. You've gotten a lot of good suggestions here and I hope you find some of them helpful. Either way, the real concern is the safety of your children. I'm glad to see you removed the satellite photo with your exact street address from your website. However your accuweather.com link still shows your town and of course your last name is posted on your website. Along with all those adorable photos of your kids and their names. I know how much fun it can be to have your kids and family photos on a public website, but consider the possibilities, particularily with 3 known sex offenders living in your small town. Even in a population of 473, you just can't be too careful. And if I remember correctly, you recently posted a lengthy post about your brother being an alcoholic and your concerns about your daughter and his possible sexual abuse. I'm very glad to see you are getting locks on your doors to protect your home and children. Please take another look at your website and consider any other personal information that might not be in the best interests of your family to publish on the world wide net. Best of luck to you and here's hoping the mother in law issue will not continue to be problematic once you can lock her out of the house....See MoreThings I would NOT recommend or things I dislike!
Comments (150)Rhome410...why are you cleaning up?!! :-) With 8 children I'd think one of them would be cleaning up! I'm the oldest of 6 and when I was growing up we kids rotated having dish duty for a week each. My mom did all the cooking until she started working outside the home when I was in 6th grade or so (my youngest sister was in Kindergarten). Come to think of it, most of the chores were done by us kids...they were broken down into 6 sets of chores & we each had a particular chore set for a week. Cotehele...one of the advantages of drawers, IMHO, is that they have higher sides that help keep things from falling off when pulling them out. However, to each his own! We have almost all drawer bases in our new kitchen with the exception of the "Pet Center" that has 2 FE pullouts + drawer--we'll be removing the pullouts (was supposed to be full-height/no shelves or drawer, but KD ordered incorrectly), sink bases, and two 6" filler pullouts. I do think Jessie21 has a point though...I think the two pullouts flanking our cooktop do look better than if I had had all drawers on that side. (The other side is broken up w/DW, sink base, & trash pullout) Things I do not recommend: regular shelves (adjustable or not!) in base cabinets (obvious, I know!) shallow cabinet above refrigerator...even if you have to pull a 12" deep one out to make it flush w/your refrigerator, do it! not having a utility cabinet for broom/mop/dustpan/etc. We tried to fit one in, but couldn't so now I'm trying to figure out how best to put them in our step-in pantry. We had them in our previous pantry but they were always in the way. I'm trying to figure out a better method for handling them this time other than just mounting them on the wall next to the shelves or on the door (our door has a frosted glass inset so there's no place to hang them there.)...See MoreCould third time be a charm? Met with another cabinet guy...
Comments (5)I am so sorry you are going through this. It never ceases to amaze me what it takes to get people to take your money, especially in this economy. Hang in there, and hopefully this 3rd guy will be the one. Even with our extremely responsive contractor that we went with, there have been many frustrations along the way, so it is very important to work with a good/trustworthy one. If they are this flaky up front, I'd hate to think how they'd be during the job....See Morelucillle
