WALLPAPER HELP! Need STUNNING WALLPAPER FOR DININGROOM!

I have dark chestnut wood in my dining room which is in the middle of the house between the living room and the kitchen. I used to have FABULOUS Schumacher wallpaper but after 15 years, my hubby and I removed it to paint because "wallpaper" was kind of "out" and paint was "in", Well, after two years, I realize I don't like it and that the wallpaper pulled the whole first floor together...so...now I am on a hunt for the "oh most perfect" and STUNNING wallpaper. I am not willing to paint the dark chestnut wood and I'm wanting to go with shades of gray throughout the home...changing it up. Can anyone recommend an absolutely drop dead gorgeous wallpaper? I love Zuber murals but they are WAY out of our budget and...I 'm stuck between a cool, hip look or a traditional Thibaut look. We are empty nesters and will probably be selling in another year or two so I want it to be "Buyer-friendly"; however, I am kind of bold. I'm a Realtor and see so many different looks and I like to be a bit ahead of the curve. I had a red living room a long time ago back before anyone had one so as soon as I saw everyone painting their living rooms and dining rooms red, I changed it up. Gorgeous, striking, STUNNING...are words I would love to describe my choice of wallpaper. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! I LOVE Schumacher Chiang Mai Dragon...but that too is a little out of budget. I need 16 single rooms for above the chair rail. Thanks everyone! As much as I have stalked Houzz to death over the years, I never used this "Poll" option but found out about it through Ashton Kutcher's video! ;)

Just an idea, but since you're planning to move, what about framing a few panels of a wallpaper you love? Buyers won't be deterred by having to remove wallpaper if it's not their taste and you can take it with you when you go.

This Thibaut paper is bold and traditional at the same time. I know you are changing up your house and going in the gray family, but you could get away with the green in this pattern. The darker metallic brown/gold one may look nice with the chestnut wood, but you would have to get some samples.

I don't think I can get the paper wallpaper backing/wallpaper paste to release from the paper coating of the faux wood paneling. They've essentially fused to become one. If I try to remove all of the paper, and clean it, I'm certain I will end up with badly damaged paneling. I really think the only options are paper over paper, or paper over paste. I just need help understanding which is best of these two options.

NEVER paint over wallpaper!! You do NOT need to replace that drywall. I used a steamer to remove the HUGE amount of wallpaper in my house - every bathroom, the entire kitchen and dining room was wallpapered. And it was not a "peel off" either - no primer. I tried the sprays and chemicals and they sucked. The steamer was messy, but man it did the job. Just put down plastic or canvas drop cloths to protect the floors. I got as much glue off as I could and got it as smooth as I could, using a good scraper to remove all the bits. I used joint compound to fill in any holes or gouges. After drying, and then sanding smooth, I used Gardz over the entire wall. This stuff SEALS THE WALL, and it is awesome. Well it's possible, but their house is not your house and so forth, and their good match may not be yours. I am not trying to be an ass, that's just the reality of how light affects paint colors. When I walk into a paint store and try to find the paint color I used in my old living room I am not even on the right part of the wall. It read icy blue in my living room and is green on the paint chip wall.

Check out Fornasetti's Pansee in charcoal by Cole & Sons. I just had this installed in my dining room and entry in a 185 year old creole house in the French Quarter. Walls and ceiling are dark grey with elaborate white trim, dark antique and deco period furniture, antique gold velvet modern chairs, and gilt framed art and antique mirror. There is a slight hint of both silver and gold metallic shine in the evening light- stunning and dramatic but still subdued. I too was attracted to the Zuber murals and de Gournay papers but the cost and lead time was daunting.

Check out inside wallpaper.com for some good deals and excellent variety. I love this silk from RL, but way too pricey. This gray paisley from Brewster strikes me as a nice combo between classic and modern.

Try fabric. It might offer more options, and can be 'upholstered' to the wall for easy take-down.

Grass cloth !!!! If the wood work is also chestnut, paint the ceiling the same color as the grass cloth.
