Another of my waterlilies

Nymphaea violaceae is another of our natives. It's growing in my dam and the swamp. I love the colour of the flowers, especially when they're first opening.

LOL thanks Anne! I don't have a problem catching them, they are used to me. How many do you want?? LOL C&J, my best guess is a neighborhood full of them right now. Gary, I'm south of you, in the Keys. We also have a neighborhood croc that lives in a neighbor's back yard. You want her? It's always something, isn't it? It's usually the racoons that mess with the ponds. This year the racoons finally got bored with it, and now it's the iguanas. Corrie

Thanks for the comments. As they age the colours fade a bit. The best is as they're opening first time. Every night they close up and reopen mornings.

No you can't eat the shell they are still hard even after boiling. Occasionally you will have a small young soft skin peanut and those are soft enough to eat whole. I buy bulk raw green peanuts, fresh dug are best. At the Hong Kong market they have them often. I have started cooking them in my instant pot and it's much easier and far less time involved. It takes about 1 - 2 cups of salt in the water because of the hard shell it has to get through. Usually people either love them or hate them. I love them. 💕

Hi

You asjked about my favorite flower lol Not only sky blue but has an incredible aroma ,flowers 10 months out of the year and responds well to overfertilizing to increase the size of the flowers . Only problem is that I have a small pool and it will cover it all and tend to stack up. gary
