Thanks Nancy, but I have no intention of feeding or keeping them. I play around with hybridizing waterlilies, they are in my seedling tubs and stripping them bare. In order to get them out, I will have to pull hundreds of seedlings first. Corrie

In the desert! I planted waterlilies & lotus in pots on my north facing porch since it's already getting hot here in Phoenix. See the photo gallery (desert or pond sections) to see photo of flower.

No filtration for any of the fish in the lily tanks. No pumps. When (if) I get a koi pond, I will have filtration and a pump, but the lilies don't need it and by keeping the fish load very low and I do partial water changes often on the big tank with koi, they get along without it. It is not ideal for koi...goldfish get along okay. When I raised fancy goldfish, in aquariums, they, of course, all had pumps and filtration. Lilies, in nature, grow in still ponds, so if someone has an ornamental backyard pond, they need to put the lilies in the stillest, sunniest part of the pond. They do not like water rushing past them, and they really hate water splashing on their pads. I wrote a booklet on watergardening, but need to get it printed out. I sell waterlilies at my friend's shop...she has all kinds of collectibles, painted and cedar furniture and plants. I wrote a small booklet to give to people who bought lilies because I find that there are a lot of misconceptions about growing waterlilies. They are the easiest plants in the world, as long as you are mindful of a few things.
